Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
LaLa Events Co. originated with a conversation between Fatima and myself about how challenging it can be to connect to others as adults, and we thought an amazing setting to strengthen bonds is picnics in beautiful settings. We are both entrepreneurs who contribute immense passion and insight into this business, so the vision, mission, and action plan manifested rather rapidly. My background is all things creative: design, storytelling, culinary arts, and exploring the outdoors, and Fatima’s background emphasizes planning, staging, and strengthening relationships. We are both passionate about creating our own opportunities and personal growth, which have fueled the ongoing development and evolution of LaLa Events Co. Combined, we balance each other out and lead a growing business that began in the summer of 2022. The continual reassurance we receive from guests describing our picnics as magical and gorgeous, comfortable with delicious food, and among the best experiences of their lives motivates us to keep developing our vision curated to deliver an exceptional experience for guests. We continually see the benefits that come from spending time with loved ones at an exceptionally comfortable picnic with stunning views, as reflected in how relaxed, grateful, and revitalized each guest feels after their LaLa picnic.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
At each stage of building out our picnics, we have learned lessons along the way and modified our workflow until we achieve a rhythm that is efficient and enjoyable. We work very closely to one another, so it was essential that we establish our roles and routines when we set up and break down picnics for a smooth process and communicate proactively. We have largely employed a trial-and-error approach, and the enhancements we continually make have evolved around trying to build picnics that are practical and purposeful, in addition to being beautiful. One of the greatest challenges we overcame was when we received a request for a 40-person picnic for a business retreat, and within one week, we built out the tables and prepared everything we needed to expand from standard 2–8-person picnic set-up to a successful 40-person picnic that was highly praised. The experience was stressful, but it was also very rewarding because it proved to us how well we work as a team. One of the main ongoing challenges we continually work to overcome is ensuring there is ample shade for guests. We have set up different types of umbrellas on different surfaces, only to be humbled by the power of the coastal winds, which pushes us to innovate more. We recently started building an adorable tent at our La Jolla locations at Cuvier Park and Mount Soledad, which holds up in the wind, and also provides shade for the full picnic area. Beyond the practical uses, guests of all ages find the tent to be a really cool and unique experience, nostalgic even. In settings where our umbrellas are stable, such as Sunset Cliffs, we have been adding floral elements around the umbrella, which elevates the sense of magic or romance of the picnic. So, as we continually make modifications, we listen very carefully to guest feedback to ensure we are on the right track.

LaLa Events Co. specializes in luxury picnics with freshly prepared organic menu offerings. Our mission is to cultivate Comfort, Convenience, and Connection at each and every LaLa picnic and event. We host picnics for a range of occasions and add special decor accordingly for: Anniversary, Birthday, Proposal Picnic, Family Gathering, Rehearsal Dinner, Business Events, Bachelorette Parties, and more. We can currently host up to 40 guests and recently acquired a 4k projector to cast movies, slideshows, and more. All of our picnics also include fresh organic Fruit, as well as beverages. We also take extra steps to make our picnics as eco-friendly as possible, as we recycle and minimize waste, choose environmentally conscious materials, and all food scraps, such as pineapple rinds, are composted. We also differentiate ourselves from competitors by emphasizing comfort by providing plush seating and ample shade for guests. We are happy to work with guests to add elements upon request, such as red roses or a birthday cake, and we are ultra-proud to maintain 5-star reviews from our guests, who have spoken highly of their LaLa picnic experiences with gratitude and exhilaration.
What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
Communication and solutions-based thinking is fundamental to succeeding as an individual and as a leader. It is vital to voice and listen to concerns or questions so that solutions can be developed promptly, which supports clarity and overall feeling more positive about taking risks and actions, thereby driving more actions toward a goal or vision. One should strive to surround their selves with others who support this open-minded, solutions-driven approach to life, which allows for ongoing growth and feeling happy and fulfilled with one’s daily efforts.
