Today we’d like to introduce you to Merilee Hennings.
Merilee, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
My adventure started about 17 years ago after I graduated with a degree in psychology from San Diego State University. I had my first son while going through college and was a single mom, so I knew that whatever job I had needed to be one I was passionate about and loved since it would take me away from him. I wasn’t sure though what that would be so I asked all my friends and family what I was naturally good at and got excited about. Each person had a similar answer-hosting, planning, being creative. I thought about this and what this could look like in a job and I reached out to a wedding planner that I knew and asked if I could shadow her. At that moment I fell in love with the wedding industry. So in 2003, I started EverAfter Events. It’s been a journey ever since! I started doing small, average size budget weddings and am now doing luxury weddings to my niche client. My company has been featured in many magazine publications and many online blogs. There is an incredible team behind EverAfter Events that make each wedding and event perfection.
Has it been a smooth road?
When you’ve been in business for 17 years, there’s going to be some ups and downs along the way. EverAfter Events was started before social media which has now drastically changed the industry for mostly good. But there was certainly a learning curve and still is as it’s always changing. We went through the recession in 2007 and while many other planners were going out of business, we stayed and pulled through. It was a struggle but we became stronger going through that refining time.
Tell us more about the business.
We specialize in luxury weddings and events. We are known for impeccable, high level social occasions (mostly weddings) with an eye for design and attention to detail. I am most proud of how my team pours their heart and soul into each client, listening to them and bringing the vision to life, exceeding our client’s expectations and desires. Our level of service and care sets us apart from other planners.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
The wedding industry has grown over the last 10-20 years into a billion dollar industry. I see even more growth and the level of weddings getting better and better. I see more options for clients when choosing vendors, decor elements and venues. Creatives being at the top of their game as more creatives rise in this thriving industry.
