Meet Micah Ninteman of Drop Zone Athletics in El Cajon

Today we’d like to introduce you to Micah Ninteman.

Micah, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Being an athlete my whole life, once it was time to choose what I was going to study in college, the only choice that seemed interesting was Kinesiology. While attending SDSU, I got a job working at the on-campus gym there, which was what first started my life in the gym and fitness world. Once I graduated, I got a job at the YMCA, which I quickly climbed the ranks to Fitness Coordinator and was in charge of the personal training and group exercise there. I worked there for about five years and after gaining all the knowledge and experience I could, I decided it was finally time to break away and start my own Fitness Business and this is when Drop Zone Athletics came to be.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Nothing comes easy, but I was plenty ready to put the time and work in that was needed to grow the business. Just like what most Trainers realize is that just because you have a nice place to train at, doesn’t mean people just come barreling through the doors by the masses. It took consistent & intelligent social media work, and of a lot of personal references from friends, family and clients to build my clientele base back up to even bigger than what it was at my previous place of work in just three months.

Drop Zone Athletics – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
We all have heard of people “being in the zone”. A lot of us don’t know exactly how to get into the zone or what takes us out of “the zone,” but we know that we want to stay “in the zone” as long as we can. For my athletes, this called the DropZone. Because it’s a state of mind you don’t have to have a location to get into this state of mind, but it’s nice when you do have a place you can drop into and get into that zone and feel safe and always wanting more of it, and here at Dropzone Athletics – That’s our mission!

In my honest opinion, if people want to lose weight, that can all be done through diet and diet alone. But in order to feel strong, confident and as tough as a Spartan, well, that is built through working out. With enough exercise and easy, proper changes in your diet, all that weight loss, lower body fat percent, and muscle gain comes with it.

I feel the most important thing about being fit is being able to partake in all the activities that you love doing, outside of the gym, with ease and confidence. This can range from carrying all of your groceries or laundry on one trip to playing with your children without getting tired before they do. Or, maybe it’s about being more intimate with your husband or wife and feeling confident about yourself. Or, about smashing that local 5k or Spartan Race. Maybe it’s taking your already established fitness to the next level! The reason we call it functional training is because our training should have a function!

So whether it’s through a one on one session, working out with a partner, one of our boot camps/small groups, or a written work out program designed by me to fit your unique goals, whatever it might be, we are here for you to obtain whatever goals you may have.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
For me, Success is defined as being better than you were yesterday but preparing yourself to be even better tomorrow. In my field of work, I often defy my success on the success of my athletes, for if they are not achieving their goals, I’m not doing my job properly.
