Meet Michael Brondstetter

Today we’d like to introduce you to Michael Brondstetter.

Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
Sure, it’d be my pleasure. I’m a recording artist that has been in or around music since I was 12. My father was dead against me ever being involved in learning or playing music. So wasn’t until my mom and dad split up that I was able to start and eventually get into music and career. I’m mostly self-taught but had help from key musician and teacher Tim Quinn who helped me take what I had taught myself and elevate it to a higher level. Since the 1980s, I’ve had to focus on building my career on the side while my wife had to battle her struggle with Cancer. A struggle she eventually lost in 2016. Having four children and a wife that had a major disease didn’t allow me to be involved in music full time until the middle of 2016 when I left my “day job” even though it was on nights and focus strictly on my songwriting and promotion along with performing.

In 2014 I recorded and released Iron Mountain which was my first fully produced collection/EP of songs in Ramona with Kirk Arnold/Dove Linkhorn. It was my calling card that I was able to learn the “modern” music business paradigm. It took me four years to find and build contacts that allowed me to create my second collection/EP so in 2018 I was able to release Change Your Mind — recorded in Santa Monica with Tom Freund producer. Which has done very well with the title track and three additional songs Cherish Time and two cover song I do in my live show I Won’t Give Up by Jason Mraz and Let It Go by James Bay. I figured out that singles do better for me than EP, so I’m taking the songs that I’m releasing the songs I have for my next CD one single at a time. Depending on how they do and how much attention they receive, the Album will fallow. There are also plans to do single releases of a 3-4 cover song in conjunction with these songs over the next 18-24 months

Please tell us about your art.
My music is an amalgamation of sounds, perceptions, experiences, emotions I’ve had to deal with over my lifetime. They, like my song “The River Flow,” are not necessarily autobiographical but are based on my own experiences mixed in with those of people I’ve meet or been connected to/influenced by. I do try to be as real as possible without delivering a sermon. Where some ideas my detail or joke about what I’ve seen in our world, the songs will have elements of hope, or courage, no matter how much one has to endure.

Choosing a creative or artistic path comes with many financial challenges. Any advice for those struggling to focus on their artwork due to financial concerns?
Be as able as possible to focus strictly on your craft. Eliminate as many distractions as possible. Be as collective as you can. Many wonderful artists out there that can help you create and help with there experiences and contacts. Be committed. I don’t mean to an asylum, but to your “craft,” Be it singing, playing, writing, etc, be willing to do it for the long hall. Can’t just be about stardom or fame, but what you’re creating. I will say that being able to put your work up for others to critique and develop is also important. We’re, our art is always a work in progress. We can all constantly grow, learn, develop. Be able to be objective while driven. Music is an industry and like all industries make choices based on “profit.” Understand this and learn to deal with it like that while you continue to develop your art. Take making a living seriously. Make your “work” pay for your life. It’s not just free for others to take form you while you borrow or starve, or both. Be objectively confident. Try to know where you are at in the industry your working in.

How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
