Today we’d like to introduce you to Michael Saltsman and Scott Borden.
Business partners Mike and Scott come from distinctly different backgrounds. Mike’s entire career has been in the bar and restaurant industry, including stints at WCPC, Hamburger Mary’s, Urban Mo’s, and Sycuan Casino. Scott has owned and operated businesses in travel, farming, real estate development, and finance.
Lifelong friends, they formed Etc Adventures LLC in June 2016 and then went looking for opportunities. They explored event planning, cannabis cultivation, and retail sales before coming across Uptown Tavern, which was not publicly listed for sale at the time.
Has it been a smooth road?
It’s been a memorable journey, with new adventures just about every day. In taking over an ongoing successful business, one of the biggest challenges is winning over the staff. While there have been a few hiccups, we are now working with a core group of talented and dedicated people who are as committed to the success of Uptown Tavern as we are and the future looks very bright.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Uptown Tavern story. Tell us more about the business.
Etc Adventures LLC, owner of Uptown Tavern, specializes in the bar and restaurant field, (well actually just one bar and restaurant) serving the colorful and diverse Hillcrest company. Our goal is to be the neighborhood “go to” place for a good meal, excellent drinks, friendly service and fun events.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
In this industry, it can be difficult to predict the weekend let alone 5-10 years down the road. The younger generations will likely be the key drivers, so we can anticipate a continued focus on quality, well-sourced ingredients, served quickly in a casual environment suitable for a gathering of friends and co-workers. With our new menu and casual neighborhood atmosphere we hope to serve our community well into an always unpredictable future.
