Meet Michael Schenk, Dylan Taylor, and Alan Vega of Rumor Recordings in North Park

Today we’d like to introduce you to Michael Schenk, Dylan Taylor, and Alan Vega.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Rumor Recordings is a new music production studio located in the North Park/City Heights region spawned in April of this year by Alan Vega, Dylan Taylor, and Michael Schenk with the simple purpose of elevating ideas to their highest levels of performance while fully embracing the joys of creating original music. The San Diego based studio works with a network of producers, writers and composers working on an array of sonic, visual and conceptual projects.

Has it been a smooth road?
As with any endeavor, there are always obstacles and roadblocks to overcome however due to the vision us founders share and our passion to work with talented artists, we’ve persevered and thus far have had worked with a long list of talented individuals committed to their art. Garnering relationships and building a reputation off of trust with these people is one of the greatest inherent gifts of having a studio as we cherish the opportunity to be a part of the creation process. San Diego is home to a plethora of incredible human beings, it is truly a privilege to host a space where so much magic takes place.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
We are a music production studio that provides recording, mixing, and mastering services to artists of all genres. We also record for non-music related projects such as podcasts and guided meditations. We are primarily known for our audio engineering capabilities and the fact that we have close ties to the music community here in San Diego. We are actively involved in a variety of music events, each performs in different musical projects, and have close friendships with many prominent artists.

We are most proud of the fact that each client we’ve worked with has left our studio satisfied and many thus far have returned for second or third projects which tells us they see value in their Rumor experience. We are one of the only studios in North Park/City Heights and as San Diego natives it is our goal to eventually be this city’s premier studio by treating any and all we work with with the utmost respect and care for their art.

One thing that sets us apart from other production studios is the fact that we hold a monthly artist feature where we record a live, stripped-down performance of one of their songs. This ongoing series will feature the local artist @donotknowria for our first installment.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
I do because so many here are actively contributing to a prominent music scene. Considering the rapid increase in festivals, concerts, and art events just in the past 5 to 10 years alone, we feel that the circumstances are ideal as we also want to contribute to this thriving community through our own work. I’d recommend this city to anyone passionate about the arts with an equally devoted work ethic. The more valuable contributions we attain as a community, the more we will thrive.
