Meet Michele Downey

Today we’d like to introduce you to Michele Downey.

Hi Michele, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I was a nurse, who then became a pre-hospice counselor(“known as Death and Dying nurse) and a counselor of drug and alcohol and their families, who assisted with interventions. a new tachnique at that time. I became a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist for 40 years, and along the way started a coaching school for 10 years. During this time, I was a bellydancer with Lucia and worked with award winning Daniel Vasco from Columbia with Ballroom american and Rythm and won many awards over the 15 years at “DanceSport”. (Daniel trained many of the professional dancers on Dance with the Stars such as Cheryl Burke and Karina Smirnoff)

authored many books and series of books, for children on communication and adults who were clients.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
working with Aids populations before a cure as well as Cancer.(on the hospital floor known as the death and dying floor
Being the Head Nurse of an adolescent-aged floor the hospital when the drs said I looked like I was their age

Started competitively dancing with Daniel 15 years ago.

I wrote many books on her website to help her clients.

I’ve always had a creative side, and life brought me into the art world in the most unexpected way — through meeting Robert (Bob) Womack. We met on a date and shared many years together. Bob was the creative partner and close friend of Steve Kaufman, Andy Warhol’s protégé. Together they founded RAWSAK Studios, a powerhouse in Pop Art.

Today, I serve as Marketing Director for RAWSAK Studios, promoting their incredible legacy and introducing new generations to their art. I also paint floral designs on glass and vases — a hobby that blossomed into a business — and I dance competitively with Daniel Vasco, who has trained many “Dancing with the Stars” professionals.

What were you like growing up?
daughter of an Air Force flight surgeon and a physician, and a mother who was a nurse anesthesiologist. Moved every 2 years growing up and lived 4 years in Prestwick, Ayershire Scotland. Because of frequest moves, made many friends quickly. Started college at 16 and graduated at 20.
