Today we’d like to introduce you to Michelle Harrison-McAllister.
Michelle, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
In a past life, I was in the Property Management Business where I worked for Oakwood Apartments in Pacific Beach. My Design Degree was not being utilized so I did some soul searching and found I could utilize both my Sales/Marketing/and Design Experience for a large Model Home Design Firm.
Flash forward and here I am now designing for the Multifamily Industry! Knowing how Property Management works and the expectations of the Leasing Staff, as well as the Developers, has been such gift for me to be able to Design for the desired demographic and profile. My passion to deliver the edgy, different and infectious interiors keeps me busy with constant research. It’s important to know who your audience is.
You wouldn’t design in French Country style for downtown San Diego. Interior Design now has no boundaries and is more focused on the experience rather than matching nightstands and lamps. Bringing in local artists and flavor is essential for neighborhood symmetry. Adding a swing in an in-home office? Of course!! Let’s do it!!
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Learning my own value is something I have worked hard to nourish. The value of experience is priceless.
Michelle Harrison Design – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
We specialize in the Design for the Multifamily Industry in For Rent and For Sale Communities. I am most proud of working very hard to leave my Design Ego and Designer Hat at the door. Flexibility is so important and keeping an open mind in Team Meetings. My Clients know their customer and know their business and have vital and valuable input on the success of the interiors.
I am most proud of adding a memorable quote, accent wall, art piece……, adding the unexpected in the Interiors… I have heard from Clients that what sets me apart is my flexibility. Believe me, I can have a strong opinion and input if I feel very very strongly about my interpretation.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
My definition of success is having daily gratitude.
