Today we’d like to introduce you to Mike Cuevas.
Mike, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I’ve been a real estate agent since I graduated college (2002) but never relied on buying leads or prospecting like activities (cold calling, door knocking) that the gurus shove down new agents throats. The basis for what we built in our software comes from the lessons I learned back when I started. That lesson is that the vast majority of business for Realtors comes from the people we know, not strangers.
We realized that over 60% of a Realtors business comes from referrals, repeat business, or people you already personally know. At the same time, the large majority of Realtors are constantly chasing leads when the truth is that your sphere of influence is the largest source of business. Our software Attracktor makes it easy to stay on top of mind. It’s the first overall solution dedicated to building a real estate agent’s personal brand, but that’s only half of the battle.
We also built a full transaction management system inside our software dedicated to enhancing the consumer experience and simplifying the workflows throughout. It’s the first all in one system with a transaction management, CRM, and attraction based marketing solutions focused around real estate agents. It’s like a mobile marketing department and software combined! We are focusing and affiliating with independent brokerages across the country!
Has it been a smooth road?
NO, not at all. It’s been a long 4 years. About 4 years ago I sold my condo in Chicago and did very well on it. I invested all of that money into what we built today. In other words, I’ve been working 4 years with no income for my business. Up until last July I lived in Chicago and was still selling real estate. I knew that if I wanted it to work that I had to go all in.
So I packed up my family and headed to San Diego (without a job) to be closer to my business partners who own a brokerage here called Big Block Realty. Through that time I endured supporting all of our monthly overhead with developers, partners, etc… This by far was the hardest transition I made in my life. I had a great real estate career but gave that up to follow my passion.
It wasn’t until I landed in San Diego that we started to begin the media company of our software, which provided video editing services, Word Press websites, done for your content marketing, and done for you listing marketing services for Realtors who are members our Attracktor.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Attracktor- Real Estate Marketing Dude story. Tell us more about the business.
Attracktor is the first all in one software solution for brokerages, but we have plans to interrupt the traditional brokerage model. We believe we can provide more training, culture, and support a national franchise gives to their franchisees, but through software and marketing company instead. In this model, our affiliates only pay for what they use vs. costly override and franchise fees.
Attracktor is also a value-added solution for brokerages to share with their agents. We stack their offices with all the tools and services that Realtors want, which then puts them in a position to attract new agents instead of recruiting them.
We are looking at the big pictures and adding in culture, support, and training into our software solution and services. Everything we do is an attraction based so we teach others and assist them in creating lots of content and media around their brands.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
HUGE shift. The real estate industry is under attack from all sides. First, you have the flat fee brokerages. and rebate shops. They are offering consumers a less expensive option to buying or selling real estate. Full-service brokerages are losing business to these options.
Secondly, you have shifted within the brokerage industry. There are traditional split like brokerages and then 100% commission models. The big box brands are losing market share as today roughly 57% of agents are with independent brokerages vs. large franchises.
Today 96% of consumers chose the agent over the brand which is why we are playing so heavily into the personal branding space. We believe a real estate brokerage is not a consumer-facing company. We believe brokerages are customer service departments for agents and Attracktor is built to support that mindset.
