Today we’d like to introduce you to Miranda Edwards.
Miranda, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I became interested in baking when I saw my mother in law decorating cupcakes, from there my interests were peaked. I started watching YouTube tutorials, googling, and using Pinterest for recipes and changing some things to give them my own special touch. I knew I wanted to make cakes, with every opportunity I had I would bake for friends and family. I got my first wedding cake order in 2011 for a family friend and knew that this was my passion. As I got more orders and my schedule was filling up, and trying to balance college, I became overwhelmed, therefore I decided to take a step back but knew in the back of my head this was my calling. I would still make cakes for friends and family, but only here and there and not living up to my potential. A few years went by, I became a stay at home mom to my son when I got pregnant with my daughter, then decided it was time to take my hobby more seriously and show everyone what potential I really had. I became obsessed with baking for birthdays, weddings, events, and more. I wanted to continue to learn and self-taught myself how to make Macarons, donuts, Pies and other desserts with knowing there’s so much more to learn. I got offered my first styled shoot about a year ago and fell in love with all the opportunities of being able to express my artistic skills in the way I wanted too. Now I get to enjoy my days baking and creating amazing artwork and treating people to some delicious desserts.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I have defiantly have had my share of challenges when it comes to this business, trial and error on learning new desserts, mostly error till I get it right especially the Macarons(my hardest and most accomplished item of desserts), having two toddlers and trying to stay caught up with my workload and the social media part of it, to even having “big cake whoops” while delivering them and trying to make them come alive again. Being a cake artist is not easy it is very time-consuming and trying, never-ending learning and lots of trial and error, but with every challenge I overcome I become more and more thankful for the art I get to create!
We’d love to hear more about your work.
I am a Baker who strives to make amazing cakes for all occasions, I am a mom who turned my hobby into a career and looks to make each cake and dessert to satisfy my client’s needs. I don’t just make desserts, but with those desserts I also make art, and I strive to make sure that the art I create just doesn’t look good but tastes amazing as well.
I specialize in Wedding cakes and cakes for all occasions but also make a full list of desserts to suit my clients every need, Macarons, Donut walls, Chocolate covered treats like strawberries and pretzels, pies, cupcakes and more.
I am most proud of my Wedding cakes, each wedding cake I make brings joy to my heart to know I am apart of something so beautiful and special and my treats get to the be the last and the best treat of the night the bride and groom will eat. Wedding cakes are so beautiful and so meaningful and hopefully the start to my baking relationship with each family.
The artwork in my cakes is defiantly what sets me apart from other bakeries. I want to make your dream cake come to life and with me, you get a beautiful cake that tastes great too.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
I pride myself on being Passionate about what we do. I care about each client and there dreams and ideas for their cake and the relationship we get to build with them, we care about the work we put into our cakes, the taste, design, the art, and the whole process it takes to get that perfect cake. To be Passionate about your daily job makes it where I will never stop caring about what I do.
