Today we’d like to introduce you to Emilie Wizbowski
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Jayden and Emilie met in the library, noticed that we had the same Sonic Youth sticker on our laptops and immediately sparked a conversation going band for band and naming all our musical aspirations. After that first meeting is when we decided to form a project. Jayden had already known Ashley from San Diego State’s student radio station and we all began jamming together shortly there after. After posting flyers for a drummer around SDSU’s campus we soon found our drummer, Elliot, through an audition based process. After realizing that we were the representation we wanted to see with the music scene around our campus, we had a mission in mind and set to it through authenticity and passion for the art.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
While we have seen a steady incline in growth, not only in fanbase and personal sound, we have found what works well for us. One of the biggest struggles for all of us has been balancing being full time students along with working and keeping Misfire priority. We also acknowledge the fact that we are a diverse female fronted band and that there are challanges and assumptions of being perceived a certain.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Misfire is a shoegaze and post-punk inspired alternative rock band. Misfire is three full time college students with one freshly graduated, and we are extremely proud of this feat. We have helped bring a new sound and a new look to the San Diego State music scene, and this has payed off for us as we have been able to have steady growth outside of SDSU and gotten to play at venues like House of Blues and Soma. What sets us apart is being the art as an artist. Not only is our music our priority, but we also create all of our own merchandise, graphic design, and video editing. We see all of these things as extensions of the music, making us artists as a whole.
So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
What matters most to us is not only our music but making a difference in the scene it is cultivated in.
