Today we’d like to introduce you to Monét Nyree.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Being born and raised in Southeast San Diego has provided me with the gift of innovation, and skills to make something out of nothing. My creative journey ignited my sophomore year of high school. I went to Kearny, Digital Media & Design where I had access to computers, Adobe Apps, and cameras, which I didn’t have at home – so I took advantage and began to hone in my graphic design skills, while also playing around in front and behind the camera.
When I graduated high school and began attending San Francisco State University, it was an inevitable notion that I would be doing art. The city oozes creativity, but is also very expensive – so I found myself beginning to do freelance graphic design work as a side hustle, and this is where I realized that I want to do this more seriously, while also continuing to enhance my other creative endeavors, such as modeling, painting, and performing. I am an artists of many mediums because I have taken the time to collaborate with likeminded creatives who have taught me many things, while also being confident in my craft and intentional about it.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Getting to this point has not been the smoothest road, but that in itself has allowed me to create work that is personally healing. Throughout all of my time creating, I have worried that my rent won’t be paid in time, questioned how I would come by my next meal, and always thought about my family, which at the time my parents were split up and battling addiction(s). The fact that I was away from home at college also made it very challenging to stay confident in my independence, which at times affected the outcome of my work.
Please tell us about Monét Nyree.
Although I have not officially started my business, I am my business. I always get frazzled when folks ask me what I do because I do so much, especially when it comes to art. In conclusion, I am a creative director and muse who loves to create with the intent to unify. I happily offer graphic design services for products ranging from logos to websites and especially digital collages, while also endeavoring in modeling with local photographers and creatives in The Bay Area and more recently, San Diego. However, those are just a few things I do.
I am also a color enthusiast who specializes in communal collaboration and bringing emotions, thoughts, and feelings to life through various mediums of visuals. Many people are not aware that I also am obsessed with painting, singing, spitting a rhyme or two and dancing. If you need an actress, I can do that too!
Everything I do hold intention whether conscious or subconscious.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My favorite memory from childhood would be when me and my family would all go to L.A. for the weekend to go to Disneyland. It was a yearly tradition that reminds me of when we were all together. I remember my dad would put me up on his shoulders so I can see everything better and my mom would sneak candy or gifts for us before we left. I remember I would get so excited about those big ass turkey legs and I didn’t care how long we had to wait in a line. I was just happy to be there with my family.
