Meet Monica Gabourel of Stitch Veterinary Urgent Care and Surgery

Today we’d like to introduce you to Monica Gabourel.

Hi Monica, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Proud to be a San Diego native, my journey started when I was 18 years old when I landed a job in a veterinary clinic as a technician. My interest in veterinary medicine grew ever since. Next thing I knew, I was graduating from UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine and off to a career as a full fledged Veterinarian in San Diego at an Emergency and Specialty Hospital. I took a liking to Emergency Medicine and Soft Tissue Surgery, and over the many years have gained more experience and passion in both fields. It became a goal of mine to open a privately owned veterinary hospital, and this dream came true in August 2023 when I opened Stitch Veterinary Urgent Care and Surgery. What a dream to combine Urgent Care Medicine and Soft Tissue Surgery in one facility. I am proud to bring San Diego a locally owned and operated business, especially when we are surrounded by so many big corporations (that unfortunately can take advantage of us). It really shows when you step in to visit us, that we provide personalized care and medicine for our patients and their owners, and we are all about integrity.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Some of the challenges I have faced have been opening a local small business in the face of all the veterinary corporations around us. I hope to overcome this challenge by providing personalized service to clients and pets at a reasonable cost, and stand out with exceptional medical and surgical care for pets, as this is something that can be hard to find at the other veterinary corporate clinics.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Stitch Veterinary Urgent Care and Surgery?
We are a veterinary hospital.
We specialize in Urgent Care, Emergency Care, and Soft Tissue Surgeries. We are known well for working closely with your regular veterinarian and will help with cases, such as gastrointestinal foreign body surgeries.

We are proud of the service we bring to San Diego clients, Veterinarians, and all dogs and cats. We show this with integrity, compassion, and honesty. It is our mission to help people and pets in times of need.

What sets us apart from other is that we are private and locally owned veterinary hospital, bringing you 25+ years of experience, that welcomes all urgent care, emergency, and soft tissue surgery cases to help your pets. We offer walk-in services for sick pets during our open hours 7 days a week to make sure your pet gets immediate care for their illness.

What matters most to you?
What matters most is that people and pets are treated with respect, openness, and excellent medical care at a reasonable cost. This matters so much because as the world around has has been taken over by corporations these qualities have taken a back seat. We are proud as a small business to provide personalized care, reasonable costs, and excellent quality for pets and their owners.
