Today we’d like to introduce you to Alix Clowser.
Alix, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
In 2015 I had just finished getting my Certified Nursing Assistant License; after spending the entire summer being devastated working the Alzheimer’s and Dementia sector, I decided I needed a career change to help people in a different way that was less emotionally taxing. I was a nanny while I went to school-I stopped both at this time and ended up being the receptionist for a loan company.
I had planned on finding another job while being in the receptionist position (it was more of a transition than anything) until my boss at the time approached me and said “I heard you were a nursing student? Why are you answering our phones?”. It was at this time he urged me to get my mortgage license, and I did! I had no interest in mortgage or finance initially, but I quickly fell in love with it after being made Jr. Transaction coordinator. For the next four years, I worked my way up from Jr. TC to Sr; from there I became the Operations Assistant and most recently stumbled upon sales and loan origination-where I found my passion. I truly love being a Mortgage Loan Originator and am excited to see what more the future holds in this career!
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Of course, it hasn’t been a completely smooth road haha. A path worth traveling is usually not paved 100% of the way already. True growth (of any kind) is never linear; there will always be high points and low points and that is perfectly okay! As long as you work just as hard in every season, you will always see it come to fruition.
Tell us about your company. What do you do, what do you specialize in, what are you known for, etc. What are you most proud of as a company? What sets you apart from others?
Our overall company is called MortgageOne. We are a full service lender, however, a unique facet to our company is that we are a correspondent lender. This means instead of being one main financial entity, we have 27 different investors to choose our products and pricing from, which is how we can stay super competitive!
MortgageOne also has a VA specialized division called Military Home Spot, and we specialize in education and facilitation of the VA home loan benefit. Military Home Spot also has their very own home search page that is unique and specific to service members; it not only allows them to search for homes (much like on zillow or realtor.com) but there are also built in tools and resources for the service members to utilize on our website.
All of our office staff at MHS are either a former service member or military spouse (such as myself) so we truly understand and can cater to our VA clients, which not many can say.
Instead of focusing on just sales strategies and numbers for growth, we genuinely care about the well being of others. We give true financial advisement as opposed to some who are just looking to make commissions and meet quotas. We create lasting relationships with the clients we so proudly serve.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
Much like every Loan Officer, there are certain production goals I would like to meet and am planning to reach this year. However, I am very much looking forward to expanding my role beyond sales and production in the future.
My passion is education and process efficiency. I am striving to eventually be in a position where I am not only originating loans but also doing a fair amount of education for both prospective clients and any new team members we bring on board. This industry is very fast paced and always evolving, and I would love to be personally responsible for helping my entire sales team stay current, educated and efficient with the main focal point being stellar customer service.
