Meet Nadia K of San Diego

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nadia Kasyouhannon.

Nadia, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
My love for real estate started when I was 19. I worked for a top brokerage and a top realtor. I got married at the age of 20 and decided that I wanted to be a mom immediately. I got out of the real estate field and started working for a well known plastic surgeon in Coronado. Once I was eight months pregnant that’s when my husband and I decided I would stay home and raise our first child. Motherhood changed my entire world and outlook in life. I loved it so much that we had our second child 15 months later! While being a stay at mom which is the hardest job in the WORLD… I always kept myself busy by working from home. Selling skincare products, making custom pieces and even opening up an online clothing boutique. Whatever I got my hands on I did it! Fast forward to a few years my husband and I started looking into purchasing a home when the market crashed in 2008. That’s when the real estate fire came back on. Even though we had an agent I was the one that was on top of the market. We found our dream home which was a short sale. The listing agent had priced it at $320K I decided to check comparables and saw that homes were selling in the $420K range. I told my husband to make the offer at $400K. He said, “Are you crazy?!” I told him to trust me!!! We ended up beating out 32 offers. We didn’t overpay we have equity in our home now because it’s worth in the $700K. Long story short when I became pregnant with our third child that’s when I decided once my baby went to pre-school I am getting back into the real estate field.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I am always so grateful for the bumps in the road. I think we have to experience some hardships to feel grateful. I think the biggest struggle for me was proving myself to my future clients, friends and family that I am a true professional. Not just the Nadia they know and love.

Please tell us about your work.
Being a realtor is one of the most rewarding careers in my opinion. Some people ask “what is your WHY”? My WHY is helping others. I think 90% of my transactions have been extremely hard but once accomplished the looks on my client’s face says it all. I joined COMPASS and not only are we one of the top brokerages in the US but we are a company that gives back. Being surrounded by loving and professional people makes my life more rewarding. It’s hard for me to describe what sets me apart from others because I never compare myself to another person. I am competitive with myself and always pushing myself to grow. I know that I love with all my heart and work hard so I would hope that the people around me would know that.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My childhood was a little complicated. I came from a loving and well rounded family. I was born in Iraq and my family and I had to escape before the Gulf war. When we escaped we ended up in Madrid, Spain. That was the best few months of my life. We met a beautiful Spaniard family who welcomed us in to their home with loving arms. Here are two families with a language barrier but we understood one language LOVE. Almost 30 years later we continue to stay in touch.
