Today we’d like to introduce you to Nahid Farhoud.
Nahid, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Who doesn’t love a fabulous party! I got my start like many people do — planning family events and hosting parties. I was so intrigued by the design of it all that I took a course in wedding planning, knowing immediately this business was for me.
I have always had an entrepreneurial spirit, completely inherited from my parents, who moved here from Kuwait when I was 17 years old. They showed me the world, taking us on travels every summer – all throughout the Middle East, Turkey, Greece, Bulgaria, Romania, England, Palestine, Israel, etc. I had interacted with so many cultures during my lifetime, that it was second nature to fall into specializing in ethnic celebrations.
I joined ABC from the very beginning and became a Certified Wedding Planner. I had met a very well-known planner at the time, who saw that I had found a niche in the wedding market. It was with her advice that I started working on cultural weddings. I have now been a planner for 15 years and have worked with couples from every ethnic, cultural and religious background, often times blending across cultures to create one-of-a-kind ceremonial celebrations.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Specializing in ethnic and global celebrations has been a learning experience. Of course, I had the knowledge of many cultures when I got my start but you meet new clients/couples who are blending cultures and have different religious backgrounds.
It’s my job to always understand their traditions and see how we can create a unique celebration. Trust me, I read a lot. If I met a client who had a background or ethnicity that was new to me, I immersed myself and studied their culture to learn everything I could.
