Meet Nancy Conney of Sky Hunters Raptor Rehab in Alpine

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nancy Conney.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
In 1987, I started volunteering with a local rescue after finding an injured owl on the road. I was with them for ten years and in 1996 decided to open a sanctuary for sick, injured and orphaned raptors.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Being a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit, we depend totally on donations from the community. Some donate a $1.00, some a $20.00. We have a membership after many years that donate monthly and some sponsor our non-releasable animal ambassadors that we use for our outreach programs at schools, camp grounds, nature centers. and scouts.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
Our main mission is educating the community on co existing with our wildlife. What to do and NOT do if you find a sick, injured or orphaned wild animal and the laws we have protecting all wildlife. We take in over 300 birds each year and are most proud of our rescue ability and release When they are returned back to their world. Specializing in just raptors gives us the ability to give quality care and with our avian veterinarians’ expertise, success.

What were you like growing up?
Growing up, here in San Diego, an average young girl, not into sports, more of a tomboy, liked forts in the canyon, hide and go seek and riding my bike.
