Natashah, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Beauty by Dolly started in 2005 by my mom, Kashmira and my aunt- Dolly. It started out as just a dream that they both had: to fill a void in the beauty industry and to live out their dream of sharing with the world what they do best, threading and sugaring. When Beauty by Dolly first opened, we had no idea what we were doing! We just knew we had a dream and wanted to succeed- somehow. As time passed, people really loved how painless and gentle our hair removal services were and they kept referring their friends, family, and coworkers. We were soon featured on local news for our eyebrow threading service, which had never been seen in San Diego! Once that aired with Carol LeBeau, the business grew exponentially! However, our initial success is not what fulfilled us, nor is it what has kept us as San Diego’s favorite hair removal studio. Alongside providing clients with our core services that we are known for, internally, our little way of giving back is hiring and training refugees and women in recovery. If helping one person gives them the opportunity to do the same for someone else one day down the road, then we have done a good job.
Has it been a smooth road?
I don’t think any business in history has ever had a smooth road! I think the definition of entrepreneurship is “hard road ahead, please be prepared and wear your seatbelt”. So yes, there were struggles, but all of them were worth it. What makes it worth it is that you worked through the challenges, didn’t give up, and were able to grow as a result. Some of the challenges we faced through the years were the learning curve of managing through many different cultures, beliefs, and thoughts and ultimately bringing everyone on the same page which was, still is, and always will be: living each moment with intent and providing an amazing client experience across the board.

We are known for providing painless and precise hair removal services. We pride ourselves on the fact that you leave our establishment with perfect brows and fuzz-free bodies, and more importantly, it was all done naturally. Everything we use in our studio on our clients’ skin is 100% natural. The second, and what I think is just as important, if not more, is that whenever you walk into a Beauty by Dolly, you are treated like family, whether it be your first time or hundredth time! All our team members have a strong bond and it extends beyond to our clients as well. We laugh with our clients, cry with our clients, and get to know and love each and every person. All the things I mentioned above is what sets us apart from others. You aren’t a client and we aren’t providing you a service — you are family and we are providing you with an experience, every single time you walk through our doors.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Absolutely! San Diego is a city that is full of opportunity, and most importantly, full of people who are looking for small businesses. Everyone that I know (including myself!) goes out of their way to look for smaller, curated businesses that really care about each and every detail. My recommendation would be to a network as much as possible. To be a successful entrepreneur, you have to live and breathe your brand. If you’re not, move aside, because there is someone who believes in what they do with all their heart, and that person will always make it!
