Meet Nia Gordon of San Diego Gator Club

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nia Gordon.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
The San Diego Gator Club has been around for years, but I became involved with the club when I moved to San Diego from New York City about a year and a half ago, a few days before the first football game of the 2016 football season. I attended the first football game at the local Gator bar, and was blown away that there were so many Gators so far from home, who were all just as passionate and excited about cheering on our alma mater as I was. It was an incredibly exciting feeling, and I knew at that moment that I wanted to be involved with the club to ensure that all Gators in San Diego could feel the sense of welcome and community that I felt.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There was a complete turnover of leadership within the Gator Club in August 2017. Myself along with five others joined the board of directors, and we were all brand new to the job. We’ve had a great first year – we had a great turnout for our kick off BBQ, we had a great relationship with the Gator bar we met at for our weekly viewing parties, and we had great turnouts at the football viewing parties early in the season, but there have certainly been challenges. This year’s football record was less than stellar – we won only 4 out of 7 games, and us Gators are used to winning championships! But, as the Gators say, “in all types of weather, we all stick together”, so we are looking forward to the 2018 season!
