Meet Nichoël Adams Dean of Studio Nichoël in La Mesa

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nichoël Adams Dean.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Nichoël. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I began making jewelry as a hobby about 22 years ago. The hobby became a mobile business and later a retail location in Central NY. I moved to San Diego 10 years ago and explored another career… until the siren song called me back about two years ago. With a background in various arts, I love to take bits and pieces from various other arts and incorporate them into my jewelry. Drawing and painting? That is featured in NY “Inklings” fused glass series. I used to do large/full scale stained glass… now, I used stained glass as a medium for jewelry. Horticulture and floristry… I do fused glass flower pendants. Above all, when moving here, I fell in love with the ocean and its creatures.. and my love is evident in my work.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Smooth… not totally. Jewelry is a common art and competition in shows and established markets can be fierce. There are some that are no longer accepting jewelry designers even on a waitlist. But in actuality, this has forced me to find or create my own opportunities!

Another factor is cost. Some of the methods, I’ve explored can be rather costly… and investment in equipment (kilns, torches, etc.) aren’t a guarantee of success. So, you find ways to make it work. You rent kiln time, buy used, use more economical materials until you gain a following and hone your skills.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Studio Nichoël – what should we know?
I specialize in the wearable art in stained and fused glass, as well as hand stamped jewelry, with a concentration in ocean-inspired pieces that are both fun and affordable. As I’m continually exploring other methods and materials, my inventory is always changing and staying fresh.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Though I feel I have talent and a tremendous drive, I know that I owe a large part of my success to the network of people I’ve built relationships with over the years who have been very supportive and go out of their way to help me build my dream… by introducing me to people, by engaging my social media, by becoming repeat customers/fans. I wouldn’t be where I am and where I know I’m going without their support.
