Meet Nick Adams of WebVitality, Inc

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nick Adams.

Nick Adams

Hi Nick, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
It started with the recession in 2008 when I was running a small boutique marketing firm out of desperation after getting laid off and having very little options. I did not have any prior experience with entrepreneurship and to say I didn’t know what I was doing was an understatement.

After closing that down I went back into the workforce for another small boutique firm called FlourishPress in Del Mar (later named WebVitality). I worked along side the CEO and learned about running a good honest ethical business.

After three years I took the next step and started climbing the ranks in the corporate world as a Product Manager building marketing operations software for the multi-family industry. While Corporate life was not for me, I had the opportunity to be a part of the sale, purchase, and integration of multiple agencies purchased by Corporate as the Director of Product in the marketing division. I learned business, finance, and how to run a successful product led software organization from some of the titans in the industry. I’m grateful for this time and experience.

Fast forward to 2023 and it was time to move on. I was watching my colleagues laid off in droves and the looming threat of AI was a constant on my mind. I decided to take a risk and bring things into my control. I went back to that little boutique agency WebVitality that had given me so much a decade ago, and I purchased it. The timing was right and I haven’t looked back since.

Today I’m continuing to grow WebVitality working with local businesses across the United States and Canada. We excel at SMB marketing and have clients in industries like, Shredding & Destruction, Medical Waste Removal, Logistics, Education, Local Business, and eCommerce. Our agency focuses less on flashy marketing and more on tride and true optimization, data, and content. We are incredibly efficient and targetted with our clients advertising budgets and we stand behind our products and services. I’m fortunate to have some of the most talented individuals in the industry on my team. They work everyday to improve the position of our clients. We service legacy marketing services as well as AI automation and business process optimization. Every dollar our client spends with us we want to increase on their end.

We have clients that have stayed with us a decade or more and that speaks to the product we produce. We believe the process makes the product and WebVitality is a highly process driven organization which allows our small team of 10 members to serve our clients efficiently and at scale.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The path has been a constant zig zag pattern of highs, lows, and learnings.

One of the biggest was closing my first company. My learning from that was that while I was great at producing the product, I had no process, I had no business sense, I was flying by the seat of my pants.

I’m a big believer that our biggest failures can become our biggest strengths. I learned so much about what not to do and when the focus is on the output and satisfaction of the client, you’re revenue increases slower but it’s way more sticky. Early on, I was focused on revenue. When I changed my view to quality of output, the revenue showed up.

Beyond that, the one piece of struggle on a personal level has been confidence. I’ve never had it and never really felt like I was in the driving seat of my own life (both work and personal). Confidence is built through repetition and the way I’ve “learned” to gain confidence is by brute force. Walking into situations and opportunities that scare the heck out of you and then survive on the other side.

I wrestled as a youth and I use that mentality. It’s about putting in reps over and over again regardless of what the mind says that leads to confidence in the areas you previously did not have it.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Mission: To elevate businesses through transparent, results-focused digital solutions backed by strategy, powered by systems, and built on trust.

Our Philosophy:
When you choose a web services vendor, fit matters. There needs to be a sense of mutual benefit and alignment that supports the whole relationship. In other words, your vendor must become your partner.

Your desired outcomes and results matter to us. We make sure we understand what you hope to achieve by working with us, then we go to work to accomplish those objectives. We want to see your business thrive, and we will do everything we can to make sure that happens. Here are some important beliefs and values that matter to us. We share these in order to give you a glimpse of who we are and what we care about to ensure we are a good fit.

We provide digital marketing and AI business process automation to SMB’s across the United States. Our primary industries are in Shredding & Destruction, Medical Waste Removal, Logistics, eCommerce, and small business marketing of all kinds.

Some other values we live by:

Trust: Your trust in us is critical to our relationship and ability to work together. To build trust, we do things with integrity. We know that it takes a long time to build trust—and just moments to lose it. As a result, trust is a core value in our business.

Personality: You want to work with people that are interesting, personable and pleasant. We do too. So those are the people we hire and add to our elite team. We want your experience with us to be positive and inspiring.

Transparency:
Our relationship with you is a partnership. And despite our expertise and knowledge, we make mistakes. While we love to share only “the good,” we know that becomes suspect unless you also know “the bad and the ugly.” So, even when it’s painful, we will let you know when something’s wrong or not working.

Systems Driven:
You undoubtedly know that systems supported by defined processes and procedures are the secret to consistent, quality results. We live and breathe these systems at WebVitality. Behind the services we offer are years of testing and proven systems that work. We have standard operating procedures and follow checklists to the letter. We make use of project and task-management tools to support our commitment to quality.

Education:
The web marketing world is complex. The solutions and services we provide for you involve a deep understanding of this complexity. We work hard to keep learning and be leading experts at what we do. We know you don’t really want to do what we do, but it sure helps if you know enough about it to make good decisions. So we help you to learn what you need to know. Sometimes we’ll challenge your assumptions about the way things work and what you want us to do, but we do this from a place of educating so you can make informed decisions and requests.

Creativity & Ingenuity:
Systems without new improvements and breakthroughs would be the kiss of death, especially in the rapidly-changing web environment. We’re constantly challenging ourselves to better our best, using our ingenuity and creativity to build new and better ways to create results for you.

Final Note:
While many agencies say they are a partner, we truly are. We are highly integrated into our clients workflow and in many are an extension of their ops and sales teams working closely to ensure we’re tying revenue to marketing spend and informing internal teams at our clients companies of what matters, and how we can support their in person touch points and transactions.

How do you think about luck?
A lot.

Gratitude is what I lead with. I don’t deserve to be where I am. Do not get me wrong, I’ve worked incredibly hard to sit where I’m sitting and I continue to work to serve not only our clients but the employees who work tirelessly on a daily basis. That being said, Luck has played a huge role.

Luck is a funny thing. Luck seems to show up when I show up. When I put myself into new situations and don’t become complacent, things happen. I think you have to intentionally put yourself at healthy risk in your life to find the luck that’s waiting for you.

If I hadn’t answered a craigslist ad back in 2012 when my business was failing, if I didn’t meet my future mentor, Tom Adams, through that interview, if he hadn’t invested so much into me…none of this would be as it is today.

I don’t count on Luck but it’s been a undercurrent through all of my accomplishments to this point.
