Meet Nicole Auditor of San Diego

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nicole Auditor

Hi Nicole, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
When I started college, I had no idea what I wanted to be or what I wanted to do. I went from majoring in psychology to interior design, then environmental science (all very different majors, I know). When I felt nothing was clicking, I took a semester off community college to step back and try to figure out if the path I was taking made sense.

When COVID hit, I had some time on my hands, and I ended up starting a blog website for fun. I found myself really loving creating, writing, and working through all the behind-the-scenes of managing a blog. It dawned on me that every English class I took in high school and college, I enjoyed and excelled in.

Growing up, I loved reading, writing, crafts… I loved anything that allowed me to be creative. Everything seemed to line up and I ended up graduating with an Associate Degree in English.

My son was born in 2021. He lit a fire in me to pursue my dream of becoming a writer. A month after he was born, I was blessed to get a job as a content writer for addiction recovery and mental health treatment centers. I absolutely loved this job and learned so much from it and the amazing people there. I stayed for over 2 years, writing blogs for various clients across America in the mental health and addiction recovery space.

During this time, I also took on some freelance work as a copywriter, working on web copy projects, social media content management, and printed materials.

I transitioned into working for a social media marketing agency, where I am a copywriter for viral short-form content. I am also 2 months away from finishing my Bachelor’s Degree in English!

Throughout the last few years, I have been so blessed to have diverse hands-on experience in the writing field, and it has inspired me to focus on building my personal business as a copywriter and content manager.

My hopes now are to help entrepreneurs, small businesses, and local San Diego businesses craft creative, authentic, and strategic content to help them reach their goals and connect people through copywriting.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
One of the first and biggest challenges I faced as a writer was finding work. As a newbie, I didn’t really have a lot of experience to show and no published work besides the blog posts I had written on my own website. Being up against experienced writers and a lot of competition, it was hard to connect with clients and jobs, whether it was internships, freelance work, part-time, or full-time jobs. It seemed like I was non-stop applying to jobs or submitting proposals for projects and constantly getting rejected.

It took me a while to learn that not getting the jobs did not equate to me being a bad writer. It meant that I had an opportunity somewhere else and the ones I didn’t get just weren’t meant for me.

Working on various projects also requires different skills that can be tricky to navigate and switch back and forth from. For example, going from writing long-form content due every couple of weeks, to getting scripts turned into new clients every single day was a very drastic pace change. However, there was so much to be learned in these experiences!

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a copywriter and content manager! I write content for entrepreneurs and businesses, ranging from social media scriptwriting to blog writing, web copy, print materials, and newsletters.

I specialize in long-form blog writing and short-form social media scriptwriting.

It may seem unrelated, but I am most proud of being a mother to my son. He is the reason why I have the drive to continuously learn and improve my craft as a writer, and he inspires me to do something that I love.

I am also proud of my mission to create authentic and creative content. I believe that blending authenticity and creativity is a strategy in itself when it comes to achieving your goals.

Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
If I could give advice to someone who is just starting out as a writer or in any creative profession, I would say to just start creating. Even if you don’t think it is good, or you aren’t writing for a job, just start, practice, and give yourself room to be creative.

One of the reasons I got my first writing job was because I had samples from my blog. My blog was just for fun, yet it helped me show them my skills and passions and helped me turn something I enjoyed into a job I love.

I would also say to create opportunities for yourself. Don’t wait for them to fall into your lap, or look for opportunities endlessly. Create opportunities for yourself. Work on different projects. Connect and collaborate with other business owners. Put yourself out there, stay true to your values, and don’t be afraid of failing.

Lastly, trust that everything works out for a reason. If one opportunity doesn’t work out, that means that there is a better one out there for you.
