Today we’d like to introduce you to Nicole Blanchard.
Nicole, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Art has always been deeply ingrained into my way of life, taking up a lot of my time even since childhood. Though we are not on the best of terms now, I do have my father to thank for that. He is the reason any of it was introduced to me after all, being a hobby of his as well.
A lot of where I am currently is a direct result of going to school for animation on a bit of a whim. I like to pride myself in being a Jack of All Trades, and so learning something new and otherwise unknown to me is a good driving force for decisions regarding the direction of my artwork. I never thought I’d be working with comics (not even on the side), but that’s where my attention has been as of late and only because I came to reside in San Diego for school back in 2014.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I wouldn’t say this journey has been without its ups and downs, but I suppose that’s what makes the accomplishments all the more rewarding. Hard work is something else.
The school was in and of itself a struggle at times, but I kept working and am now the owner of a Bachelor’s degree (and have been for over a year). Comics can be a bit ruthless at times, but I do enjoy what I get out of them and the experience I have gained working on them.
We’d love to hear more about your art.
I am my own business, and I tend to dabble in a variety of things. Most of my time lately is dedicated to comics, but I do the occasional personalized commission.
However, I personally couldn’t say what I’m most known for. I think that answer depends on who you’re asking. Though currently, I am most proud of my role in my friend’s webcomic, “Blissful Madness.”
What I would like to believe sets me apart from others is that I’m always looking to improve in some way or gain another skill that I can apply to more than one aspect of my life. Growth is really important to me.
What were you like growing up?
Honestly, I haven’t the slightest idea. But hopefully, it does grow to be more stable, though I think it will remain rewarding no matter what.
It all kind of depends. I tend to be an adaptable person, so I believe I’ll be fine no matter where I (and my brand) go from here.
