Today we’d like to introduce you to Nicole Young.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I have been going down to Baja California, Mexico for years now and people have always been telling me to start a business where I offer tips on where to visit in cities just across the border. During the pandemic I decided to do it. I was literally hungover, eating tacos with my friends, and said, “I’m going to start a travel page and I’m going to call it Baja Betches.” My friends were very supportive and loved the idea. I wanted to not only share my advice on where to stay, what to do, and how to get around but I saw how COVID-19 impacted tourism and small business in these border towns so I wanted to help those businesses stay in business by highlighting them on social media.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Lucky for us, the community and local businesses have been great to collaborate with. We continue to support them by reposting their announcement or new products. They always include us in their social media feed. Our followers have also been great, they are very engaging and we greatly appreciate them.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Baja Betches was created to help promote local businesses and events in Tijuana, Rosarito, Ensenada, and Valle de Guadalupe. We are boosting tourism in those cities by telling people where to stay, eat, and party for an Insta-worthy vacation. We are excited about how quickly we have grown in the past few months and how we have been able to highlight several new businesses in those communities. I think what sets us apart from other similar businesses is that we keep it real. We are like your friends who love to drink and have a good time, so we don’t hold anything back. We are here to help you show all your soon-to-be jealous followers what they are missing out on when you travel across the border. We are most proud of how we are able to support the community members by helping them grow.
We started with the idea of just posting photos on social media but we have recently started collaborating with small businesses and have even done multiple giveaways. It was easy for us since we frequent Baja almost every weekend. We love talking to the locals and learning more about their stories. We have learned that many of the businesses down there are not social media savy so we are glad we are able to help them grow their social media presence. We want the world to know that Baja Betches is all about having a good time, creating memories, and experiencing the hidden gems within these special cities.
We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
Many people are surprised at how many different hats I wear. I am the entire business: content creator, promotion, merchandise, networking, etc.
