Meet Niesha Calhoun of North Park

Today we’d like to introduce you to Niesha Calhoun.

Hi Niesha, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Since I was young I always knew I loved photography, encouraging other people, and traveling. In 2017, I started my blog “Nomadic Niche” which started out as encouraging other people after having brain surgery. The surgery gave me another chance at life and I wanted to use it to empower other people to get out of their comfort zones and try new things despite their circumstances. Fast forward to 2019, I moved to San Diego right before the pandemic hit. As things started opening up again I started using my photography skills again and set out to promote local businesses and restaurants. Now I get the opportunity to share the best of San Diego and Beyond with my community and I enjoy using my passion to share all about the local life here. It’s a great way to get out, explore, and encourage people along the way.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The biggest challenge for me to overcome was having brain surgery, once I went into recovery I started healing and was excited to get back out there. I also don’t want to be the same as everyone else, I enjoy being myself while promoting a positive and encouraging lifestyle to other people.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
My primary job is working in the Emergency Department as an EMT and I just applied to Nursing school! While this is my primary job, I also enjoy photography and encouraging people through my blog “Nomadic Niche.” What sets me apart is I use my outlet to encourage people while sharing the best of San Diego and Beyond.

Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
Never Give Up! I actually have these words printed on a ring. Everyone starts somewhere, you just have to be willing to put in the work to get to where you want to be. You can do it, just keep going. You may make mistakes along the way, but that’s okay because they will teach you what you need to know to do better and be better.
