Meet Nikki Nie of Wavelength Movement

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nikki Nie. They and their team shared their story with us below:

A SoCal girl at heart, Nikki loves waking up with the sun, chasing waves, and adventuring in nature. She’s also just as content sipping tea and reading a book in bed. After receiving her BFA in Dance and Minor in Communications from Cal State Long Beach, she spent over a decade in Los Angeles working as a professional dancer. Making a career out of her passion was fun and exhilarating, but the nature of the industry left her feeling inadequate and in search of validation and acceptance from someone or something. She never felt like enough. The only gig she truly needed to book was the job of unconditionally loving herself. SPOILER ALERT: she discovered that she’s wildly more than enough (and so are you). While dancing, Nikki also became a makeup artist and certified group fitness instructor.

From barre to HIIT, she was painting faces and toning abs all across La La Land and was one of the best in the biz, but with all of her focus on the external, her mind could barely do a bicep curl. She’s always been an advocate for change, and you best believe she made one! Nikki started meditating at a local studio and shortly after became a Reiki Practitioner, in turn opening the door to her spiritual journey.

Her heart called for more. She embarked on a solo adventure to Bali to study Yoga— the type of yoga that requires much more sitting than chattaranga-ing. This choice of taking her first 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training was absolutely pinnacle to her life-changing transformation. In the stillness, she met herself.

Wanting more, Nikki uprooted her entire life and moved to Bali. After diving deep into practice and learning what it meant to be a Yogini, her teacher offered her a job teaching at the studio where she trained; she was honored! Nikki taught while simultaneously soaking up every nugget of knowledge she could, studying Traditional Hatha Yoga, Tantric Meditation, Pranayama, Ayurveda, Yoga Nidra, Yin Yoga, Yoga for Kids, Pre and Post Natal Yoga, and Essential Oils. She furthered her education and completed her 300 Hour Yoga Teacher Training in Tantric Hatha Yoga at The Practice Bali. She continues to deepen her studies and practices under the lineage of Sri Vidya.

She has recently studied Feminine Form Medicine and is now a Certified Ayurvedic Wellness Coach through Shakti School and is currently studying to be an Ayurvedic Health Counselor.

Now Nikki has answered the call and has been shining her light by sharing these teachings with the world! With a passion for surfing and a deep respect for the ocean, Nikki has planted roots in North County San Diego where the waves are abundant! She also loves to travel in her tiny van conversion seeking nature, love, and adventure.

She looks forward to holding space for you to heal, grow, and butterfly so your magic and medicine can ripple into every part of your life. Her gift for bringing out the best in others is extraordinary, and if you have worked with her, this nurturance has been felt. Whether it’s through 1:1 coaching, trainings, retreats, or online class she knows it’s never too late to learn how to love yourself first!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
My word for the year is ease, and I’m calling in the energy of that word because of the struggle and effort that has been required to get me where I am now, which I know is just the beginning! You think it’s going to be easy once you figure out your dharma, but in some ways, it’s even harder! I now know what must be done, and I have a strong will to do it, and also because if I don’t, no one else will! This requires a lot of focus, dedication, and time in order to build the life I know I’m meant for. Through moving back from Bali, to starting my own biz, I’ve gone through some low moments of struggle when times felt really dark and I was losing hope. In the last 3 years, I went from living with my parents, not having a car, barely getting by financially, zero community to teach to feeling pretty darn defeated. It took a lot of trust in myself and the Universe to keep me going.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next, you can tell us a bit more about your business.
Wavelength Movement is a compassionate and conscious community that takes inspired action to change the world for the better. We care for our physical, mental, and emotional well-being by shaping our energy through movement, breath, and meditation. We support one another to live wildly and are driven to elevate the vibration of the collective. We take responsibility in learning how to love ourselves first so that together we can gracefully ride the waves of our modern life.

I specialize in creating safe spaces for people who identify as women to be vulnerable, to share their story, and to remember their shine. I empower them with tools and self-care practices drawn from yoga, tantra, and ayurveda. Wavelength Movement is a subscription-based on-demand platform where I share classes and courses. From learning about the chakras to hosting moon gatherings, I bring people together and guide my students to connecting with their inner guide so that, ultimately, they become their best teacher.

I lead retreats across the world; this year alone, I will be hosting retreats in Mexico, Bali, Morocco, and Costa Rica, combining my passion for nourishing yoga practices and sound baths with surfing and fitness from other hosts. If you want more individualized attention, I offer 1:1 Ayurvedic Lifestyle Coaching online and give specific practices, meditations, and daily rituals based on your constitution to bring balance and ease to my clients’ lives.

I’m most excited about my upcoming 200-Hour Yoga Teacher Training that I will be hosting half online starting April 26th and the other half in person in Bali from July 8-20, 2023. I’m creating this alongside my colleague Keli Deirings, and we have been pouring our heart and soul into this training. There are still spots left if you feel called! This training is less about being a yoga teacher and more about living your life through the lens of yoga. I think everyone could benefit from this training and use it to inform whatever they do. All are welcome to learn these ancient teachings from an unbroken living tradition under the lineage of Sri Vidya Tantra.

What do you think about happiness?
Basking in the beauty of Mother Nature is my ultimate joy! I love the water, and the ocean is my happy place, hence why I moved to North County! Sitting on my board and watching the dolphins swim by is quite easily my favorite thing. I plan most of my travels around where I want to surf because I can really tap into my inner child when I’m playing in the waves and walking on my longboard.
