Meet Niko Detra of Numen Lumen Acupuncture

Today we’d like to introduce you to Niko Detra.

Niko, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I’ve always been drawn to natural medicine and the healing power of herbs. My first real experience with acupuncture came when my daughter had a sports injury that just wouldn’t heal with any of the usual treatments. We decided to try acupuncture, and it worked. I was amazed by how effective it was and wanted to understand how it worked. I also discovered the wide range of conditions that acupuncture, and Chinese herbs can help with. That experience inspired me to go back to school and study acupuncture so I could share this medicine with others, whether they’re dealing with something simple or a long-standing issue they haven’t been able to find relief for.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It hasn’t been a smooth road, but it’s been a meaningful one. The schooling was long, intense, and expensive, but also incredibly rewarding. Then came the challenge of starting my own practice, which brought a whole new level of learning. How to start and run a business wasn’t really something covered in school. We had a couple of classes, but they didn’t fully prepare me for what it takes to build something from the ground up. You can have all the passion and the desire to help people, but getting the word out and reaching them is a challenge of its own. I’ve learned so much along the way and still have a lot more to learn, but I’m really enjoying the process.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
At my practice, I treat a wide range of health concerns, but I’m especially passionate about helping people with difficult or chronic conditions. I understand how frustrating and isolating it can feel to search for answers when nothing seems to help, and I want to be a supportive part of that journey. I genuinely love working with people, getting to know their stories, their challenges, and seeing them start to feel better is what inspires me every day. I recently returned from an advanced training overseas, where I studied modern, specialized techniques for treating various eye diseases, and I’m excited to bring that knowledge to my patients here. What sets my practice apart is the time, care, and curiosity I bring to each person I work with. Every treatment is customized, and every patient is treated as an individual.

Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
We all deserve to feel our best, to wake up with energy, feel at ease in our bodies, and live life fully. One of the most common questions I get is whether the needles hurt. The truth is, acupuncture needles are much thinner than what we’re used to in western medicine, and they’re barely felt. In fact, most people experience a deep sense of calm during treatment. Often, it’s the idea of needles that creates fear, not the actual experience. My hope is that more people come to see acupuncture not as an alternative, but as a complement to their overall health and well-being.
