Today we’d like to introduce you to Nisha Logan.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Nisha. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
In 2018, I went for my YTT (yoga teacher training) certification after only my third yoga class. During that class, I experienced transcendence for the first time. I had been battling anxiety and depression. Yoga helped me to see the light by giving me the ability to calm the mind. That day I learned yoga is not only a physical practice but can be healing mentally and spiritually as well. I remember after that class thinking, “I want everyone to experience this because it’s too magical to pass up.”
My goal as a teacher is to introduce people to the healing that can come from yoga. Before every class, I set the intention to help people connect deeper to self in order to connect better to their divine purpose. I truly believe yoga can allow people to experience the beauty and power within themselves.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
This journey has had its challenges. Being a newbie in the intricate world of yoga can be extremely intimidating. Most of my struggles starting out were self-inflicted. I struggled heavily with imposter syndrome. In the beginning, I had to deal with my feelings of inadequacy and self-doubt. Many of us deal with these feelings because we’ve taken on the voices of other people. However, through my yoga practice, I’ve learned to quiet the voice telling me that I’m not good enough or I’m unworthy. Through it all I have learned the beauty in showing vulnerability and how important it is for others to see all parts of my journey.
Please tell us more about your work. What do you do? What do you specialize in? What sets you apart from competition?
I specialize in Vinyasa and Hatha yoga. Vinyasa is coordinating your movement with your breath, flowing from one pose to the next, while Hatha is more of a gentle paced form of yoga. My goal with every class I teach is to help my students calm the mind by focusing on the breath and channeling their energy. My classes are beginner-friendly. I enjoy being able to create a safe space where people can let go and be in the moment.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
I think my honesty is the most important quality to my success. Yoga is more than the asanas (postures). There is constant unlearning of habits and evaluation of self that takes place when it comes to this practice. The ability to be honest with self and simply observe the good and bad without judgement allows for growth.
