Meet Nnagozie Odeluga of Visionary Media

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nnagozie Odeluga.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Hey, my name is Nnagozie Odeluga, but my friends just call me Goz. I’m a Nigerian content creator, entertainer, artist, and entrepreneur based in San Diego, but I was raised in Bakersfield, CA. I started making funny Youtube videos in 2012-2013 for my friends at school to watch. At the end of 2013, I started making content for Vine and that’s when things started to take off a bit. In about 3-4 months I had made a few videos that got quite a bit of attention which gained me 3K+ followers on the app.

Because of this and an industry friend of mine, Grant Woodard, I was able to make my 1st guest appearance on a content creator tour called Bravefest in 2014 and it was down here in SD at Qualcomm. From that point on, I’ve had the pleasure of being a special guest on another BraveFest tour, Events Fusion Live, and I’ve set up/been a part of fan meet and greets in LA and SD with other popular content creators, especially after I moved down here in August 2014. In 2015, however, I noticed a decline in the use of Vine and the increase in peoples’ use of Instagram and Twitter so I started to produce more and longer content for these platforms.

This idea, in turn, helped me produce my most popular video which premiered on Twitter and was seen by over 2 million people. Since then as a content creator and entertainer, I’ve continued to produce content specifically for social media such as Instagram, Twitter, and YouTube. Along with that, I began to showcase my other talents in music and event planning/MCing in 2016-2017. I’m produced a short film and EP in the last year which has rewarded me with a lot of performances opportunity in the SD and SDSU community and even a main event performance sponsored by the school itself.

As for event hosting/planning, I’ve had a hand in a majority of big events in the Black community at the school since 2016, such as conferences, fashion shows, talent shows, mixers etc and I’ve hosted 2 big events sponsored by and promoted to the whole school. I’ve truly been blessed with all the opportunities I’ve gained and each continues to fuel my drive towards my dreams of having my talents in comedy, acting, and music one day hit the big screen and reach the masses.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No, it definitely hasn’t. When I 1st started making videos in 2012 I got a lot of pushback from a good amount of people I would promote by content to because they didn’t believe I could make anything out of it, but I just kept working and showed them that I had something special.

Then in 2015, my little brother unexpectedly passed away and I almost gave up everything because of it. Through the healing process, it took me about a year before I could even pick up my camera again. However, once I did I was determined to get back on it, even though I had a lot of ground to cover.

Outside of those two situations, there have been low points where I considered quitting again, but I just trying to fight through them because I know just need to stay strong, buckle down, and grind to make another opportunity happen if there isn’t already one.

Please tell us about Visionary Media.
So I started off shooting short videos, ads, music videos and taking pictures for friends and small business on the side, but I wanted to make both my in-front and behind the camera business more official. So, in summer 2017, my re-branded my YouTube channel, naming it Visionary Media. Then at the beginning of 2018, me and my best friend/business partner, Daniel Alade, set out and launched a social media page to promote our services in videography, photography, and social media marketing, our slogan being “Help us help YOU bring to make your vision a reality”.

The page now had over 1K followers and our goal to provide quality content and customer service for an affordable price and to help promote others in our vicinity who are talented and could use some more exposure. We see media as a timeless business, seeing as companies will always need to market themselves and/or their product with some form of content.

Our overall plan is to capitalize on that need and demonstrate how we successfully do business differently and better than most based on the type of driven and compassionate people we are and the fact that we focus on what the customer is looking for more than what we can do for them. This way we make sure the customer is always 100% satisfied with the product we give them because it fits the vision they had for it in the 1st place.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My favorite childhood memory was consistently sneaking downstairs early in the morning to watch TV. My mom didn’t let me watch it that often so I could focus on other things like school and so I wouldn’t get “addicted” but it was already too late.

I was extremely fascinated with how entertaining these shows on TV could be and little did I know till later that I was subconsciously picking up on the industry, learning how certain scenes were shot and how a story could be developed.
