Meet Noel Churchill of RainbowOPTX

Today we’d like to introduce you to Noel Churchill.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
RainbowOPTX started as a side business while I worked full time at an online advertising agency. The skills I acquired promoting other business have been very helpful when it came time to build my own business! The inspiration for RainbowOPTX came to me while playing with a pair of “diffraction” glasses. Diffraction lenses will separate light into the full-color spectrum so you see rainbows emanating around everything you see.

It’s visually very interesting and I felt inspired by the experience. I’ve always been attracted to transformative experiences that gave me a new perspective and a fuller understanding of the world around me. RainbowOPTX ultimately transformed from that initial inspiration of enjoying the rainbow hues from the diffraction lenses, into creating sunglasses with the mood-boosting effects of each of the colors.

Has it been a smooth road?
Of course not! There have been challenges at every step of the journey, from early startup to this very moment. There have been many ups and downs. Periods when I feel like we’ve got it all figured out, and then something entirely outside my control happens and we have to act quickly to resolve an issue or avert disaster.

One of the earliest challenges was not knowing if people would actually buy RaibowOPTX. We, unlike any other sunglasses brand. Normal sunglasses use dark lenses to block the light, but we use color lenses to improve your well-being and make the world more beautiful. Because there wasn’t an existing brand with the same concept, this was an unproven idea, and I had no idea if people would buy them! I loved the idea, but I wasn’t sure if other people would too.

Funding was also a problem. RainbowOPTX has been self-funded from day one. I only had a couple thousand dollars of savings to work with, and I spent it ALL on the first order of RainbowOPTX. I couldn’t even afford to get all the colors I wanted. I could only afford to enough inventory to get just four colors.

I’m the kind of person that will just go for an idea if I believe in it, so that’s what I did. It was an unproven idea, but I believed in it, so I took all my money and went all-in on the idea. I learned a lot about our customers, who enthusiastically embraced RainbowOPTX, and we’ve been able to incrementally grow our product lineup and our brand since then.

That was just the beginning. I could go on and on about all the challenges we’ve faced and things I’ve learned to overcome those challenges. It’s a never-ending process.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with RainbowOPTX – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
RainbowOPTX is not normal sunglasses. We are mood-boosting color sunglasses, offering 10 different COLOR LENSES in many frame styles to improve your wellbeing and make the world more beautiful, instead of black lenses that make everything dark.

Our slogan is See Color & Feel Good.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
The beach! I’m a surfer and love spending time out in the water. The people. San Diego is filled with fun-loving and talented people. We have a great holistic and healing community as well.

Also, being right on the border, San Diego is a very international city. It’s so easy to spend a day touring around TJ, experiencing the culture and eating some great food.

The things I like least would have to be the traffic and housing costs. I grew up in this city and it’s definitely not like it used to be. Especially living in North County like I do, I feel like there is traffic 24/7. And rents are out of control!

San Diego is such a great place to live, and everyone wants to be here, but that means more traffic and higher rents.
