Meet Nsty Army of San Diego

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nsty Army

Hi NSTY, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Once Upon A Time In NSTY …

In 2009, while playing Rust on Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2, an option to make your own ClanTag was made available. After playing for hours and The Doc falling asleep and snoring on the mic, we came up with the idea that we should make a tag for ourselves to use when playing online with others. The only problem was we were limited to four letters, someone suggested using NSTY, that’s how we could make a statement. NSTY became the call sign and we all added it to our gamer tags. The NSTY CLAN was born.

The Prez surprised the clan one night during a work meeting with custom made hoodies with our logo on the back and the NSTY gamer tag on the front. Our fellow co-workers and friends were so excited we decided to make our clan name official. Once official we started making NSTY t-shirts and the clan was officially official.

Just like every other rockstar story as clan popularity increased so did the issues. Changes happened, positions within the clan changed, we lost some members, but hese changes didn’t derail us, they made us a new improved stronger army and the NSTYARMY was born.

We came back with a vengeance stronger, faster and NSTYer! We expanded to social media and our following continued to grow with fans all over the world! Allowing us to expand our reach! We’ve created a clothing line and shipping our products world-wide!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
As much as we would love to say that this road has been smooth, it hasn’t.

It’s been a very, very long road full of everything that could happen, did happen. There was a lot of new things to try out, which lead to a lot of failures. You find out that things seems to be a lot harder then you may have expected, something always come up, sometimes you feel along or it’s not worth it to keep going, your support system isn’t supporting, and you may lose a few, or a lot of friends.

You may find yourself comparing yourself to other people’s experiences and success.

But that’s the beauty of the struggle. You find yourself. You find a newfound passion for yourself. You believe in what you set out to do all over again. You fall back in love with it. And once you get there, it’s a feeling that can’t be explained. I don’t want to say the easy thing like “it’s the best feeling in the world” but, it’s the best feeling in the world.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
We started as a group of friends that played video games together.

From there, we started creating and making our own clothes that turned into a brand. Called ourselves, The Almighty NSTY ARMY.

Then, created our podcast to where we can get on the mic and speak on many different topics and issues called Please Excuse My Potty Mouth Podcast that can be found on Spotify and all your favorite music channels.

As time went on, and the more clothes we’ve sold. We got bigger. A lot bigger. At that point, we decided that we wanted to give back. To our friends, people that supported us now and in the future, and most importantly, our community.

So we decided to host charity events.due to some of our closest having to experience life in different ways. The challenge was, how to create something fun, raise awareness, make a young crowd interested, and how to make an impact with enough donations.

We came up with #beerpongforcharity. Hosting a beer pong tournament where the winners get 1/2 of the proceeds and the other half gets donated for charity. And the best day, we meet again and joined the marathon walk for that charity so we could not only donate but to do our part.

So far, we’ve hosted over 10 #beerpingforcharity events. Walked over 10 marathons and donated thousands of dollars to organizations like The MS Society, Autism Awareness, The Center in HillCrest, Jane’s for Women in Texas, and random food and backpack drives for the homeless and children around San Diego.

And we’ve done so much more.

We’re really proud to be able to help. Despite what our name sounds like, we are very happy to stand on what we can actually accomplish and do.

Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
Risk. Aw man let me tell you. With a name like NSTY ARMY, that’s a risk in itself. Sometimes, just with that, someone wouldn’t open the door for us or take us seriously.

But that’s how we like it. Overestimated gives us the opportunity to over deliver.

At times, we feel like we’re risking it all. New ventures, new people, self funding, etc. The worry of, if this going to work? Should we take on this task? Should we trust this person? And we’ve gambled way more than we may have liked to admit.

But which each risk, we decided that either is a lesson or a reward. Not a lost, Never a lost. From big to small, the lesson or reward has been that much greater. We are risk takers. Because we are always interested in what’s behind the door instead of standing in front of it wondering what could happen.
