Today we’d like to introduce you to Oddity Odysseys.
Hi Oddity, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
Over breakfast eight years ago, the two of us dove into a conversation that explored our love for exploring. From there, we decided to start our YouTube Channel, Oddity Odysseys. It’s just the two of us who film, edit, produce, and build graphics for our videos, so that has created numerous work/relationship obstacles to overcome. We have learned through trial and error that the quality of our content is better than quantity. Today, we continue to produce episodes of Oddity Odysseys that we hope educates, encourages, and entertains our audience.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Oddity Odysseys has had its fair share of struggles over the years, but that’s to be expected when producing video content. The biggest obstacle has been continuing to come up with fresh ideas for the channel. Of course, there have also been minor hurdles when filming, such as unexpected location closures, malfunctioning audio equipment, and bad weather. However, we’ve always found a way to workshop the mishaps and turn them into learning experiences.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Oddity Odysseys is a YouTube Channel that features unique locations in Los Angeles, San Diego, Palm Springs, and more. As Video Creators & Urban Explorers, we capture odd places, forgotten ruins, and artists’ stories to share with the world. In each episode, we offer a closer look at Oddities, such as The Mosaic Tile House, Encinitas Boat Houses, Salvation Mountain, Fallen Star, and Calico Ghost Town, while providing our viewers with historical facts and a digital map.
Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
For anyone who wants to start their own YouTube Channel, we highly recommend you do your research. Taking the time to invest in good quality video/audio equipment and researching the topic(s) presented in your content will help set your work apart. Make sure it’s content you’re passionate about! Each video will present its own set of challenges, but as long as you enjoy the process and take care of your mental & physical health, everyone will fall into place the way it should.
