Meet Ornela Toombs

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ornela Toombs.

Hi Ornela, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My husband and I we both had corporate jobs before starting food trucks. there was always something missing and we both knew we can do so much more than just work Mon-Fri 9-5 pm. we reached the ceiling and it was time for smth new. So, in 2014 we have decided to open our 1st food truck – American flavors, and year later we opened 2nd – Taco Picasso.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
100% was not a smooth ride. A lot of late nights and early mornings. Figuring our menus and what works the best for the food truck.

I always tell everyone food truck business is one of the easiest business to get in but one of the hardest business to run it.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
It all started back in 2014 when we decided to leave corporate jobs and follow the dream of being entrepreneurs.

November 2014 our 1st gourmet food truck was born, ‘American flavors’. After being successful and attending multiple events, weddings, and birthday parties, we realized that to grow and service our customers better we needed to add another gourmet food truck so we were able to attend even bigger events with having 2 trucks under same roof and make it easier for our customers to have multiple options for their guests. On July 2015 – ‘Taco Picasso’ was born. By having two trucks with different cuisines, we were now able to more than double the food options for our customers. The Vision that we saw that vendors and event organizers were able to do one-stop shop for multiple cuisines and different catering option with us only.

During our time with the food trucks not only has our business grown but so has our family. We now have 3 beautiful daughters.

How can people work with you, collaborate with you, or support you?
We love doing fundraiser/ working with local businesses/schools etc. we always appreciate when people tag us on Instagram with awesome pictures about our trucks.
