Today we’d like to introduce you to Pamela Day.
Pamela, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
My dream of becoming an interior designer was ignited while renovating and decorating my newly purchased Little Italy condo in 2009. I found immense joy in every decision from picking the paint colors down to placing the last lit candle, and it led me to recollections of drawing space plans and re-arranging my bedroom as a child. After a decade long career in finance, I followed my heart’s passion and dove into the design world.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Soon after enrolling in the Design Institute of San Diego to begin studying up for my second act, I met and married my husband and we had two babies within two years. While it was an extremely busy time I managed to open my business and start taking on clients while completing my interior design degree. Working and having young children is always a balancing act, but starting a completely new career and opening your own company has its unique challenges (to top it off)!
Please tell us about your business.
I’ve been steadily growing my clientele for the past three years focusing mainly on residential projects in North County. While I cherish all of our modern day luxuries I have a strong appreciation for antiques and classical architecture. I love incorporating a high end statement piece or a distinctive vintage find alongside modern furnishing and finishes and coupling it all with very simple things. Together this creates a layered, luxurious, relaxed environment that feels loved and lived in, not “decorated” out of a catalog. Weaving a bit of the family’s history into the home, paying reverence toward the local culture, and sourcing unique pieces complete the design process!
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
I loved learning how to drive from my Grandmother Veronica. Although I cherished spending the time with her, let’s just say she wasn’t the greatest of driver’s ed teachers, and I think she really just wanted a ride to Macy’s. We would shop at the mall, and then she’d always ask to grab a “hamburger” from McDonald’s afterward (it was the late 90’s on Long Island).
