Meet Pamela Nigro

Today we’d like to introduce you to Pamela Nigro.

Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
I tap danced my way around art by singing professionally, being a cosmetologist, and various other creative endeavors. One morning just a few years ago, I woke up and decided I wanted to paint. I had no prior training or experience, but the desire was so strong I went to the store and bought everything I needed. It was like coming home. I lose all track of time and everything else fades away when I paint. I believe that all my life’s experiences led me to my painting and it truly is the deepest calling of my heart. Since I was a very young child, I wanted to do something that would uplift and inspire people to not only live their greatness but help them to heal and escape from their troubles. I found it with my art.

Please tell us about your art.
My paintings are not only my visceral response to societal happenings, but also my sentinel of hope, promise, and belief in the vast opportunity for mankind to change, overcome, and heal.

My subjects are painted in greyscale because I choose to level the playing field and I will continue to do so until humanity no longer discriminates based on the color of a person’s skin or country of origin. My deepest desire with my art is to stimulate discussion, open new avenues of thought, give the viewer a profoundly moving experience, and transport them out of their current reality.

I believe art can lead us back to ourselves and reconnect us on a primal level. It is one of the ingredients in the primordial soup of life that feeds us, sustains us, heals us, and I believe ultimately will save us.

Choosing a creative or artistic path comes with many financial challenges. Any advice for those struggling to focus on their artwork due to financial concerns?
Most of us have other jobs to help support our art making, but we can take a huge leap forward in supporting all artists by deciding to eliminate the “starving artist mentality”. We need to cultivate the attitude that we are worthy, our work is worthy and we deserve success on all levels.

Do something every day even if it’s only for 5 or 10 minutes to move your art forward. By focusing on what you want, you’re sure to reach your goal. I always ask myself the question “Who won the race – the tortoise or the hare?”
I know that by doing something every day towards my goal, I will achieve it. I’ve proven it to myself over and over. The other suggestion I would make is to read “The War of Art” by Steven Pressfield which will give you a very clear idea of why we don’t achieve our goals, how we resist that which we truly desire, and how to turn everything around to reach what we’ve been striving for.

How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
Three of my recent pieces, “Tutti Frutti”, “I Rise”, and “Cloistered” are being exhibited at the International Art Exhibition at the San Diego County Fair June 1- July 4th, 2018.

My work can also be seen on my website at pamelanigroart.com. The best way to support an artist is, of course, to buy their work. Since everyone can’t always afford to buy originals I also offer Fine Art Limited Edition prints of some of my work.

People can also visit my studio (by appointment only) to see my recent collection and new pieces in process.
When you visit my website you can sign up for my newsletter to get info on new pieces and future exhibits.
