Today we’d like to introduce you to Paula Brunoro-Borokhov.
Paula, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I was born and raised in Vitória, Brazil, where I attended Law School. I graduated first in my class and successfully passed the Brazilian Bar Exam at age of 22. I always wanted to live abroad, so I decided to move to San Diego to pursue higher education. I attended a Master of Laws program (LL.M) in Business and Corporate Law at the University of San Diego School of Law, where I graduated with honors. After I passed the California Bar Exam, I started to practice as an attorney at a local tax law firm here in San Diego. I then pursued a second LL.M degree focused on Tax Law at the New York University School of Law. I worked at the local San Diego boutique law firm for almost three years, when I decided to go on my own and found Brunoro Law, a law firm dedicated to serving clients in all aspects of tax law and business transactions.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Becoming a business owner was never on my mind. It was a very tough decision and I hesitated a little, but I am glad I went through with it. I received a lot of encouragement from family, friends, and peers to start the new venture. Starting a business ”from scratch” was very challenging. The uncertainties and struggles were there, but with hard work, perseverance and resilience, all efforts were soon compensated.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I am very fortunate to have grown up in a loving and supporting family. I would not have achieved everything I have if it wasn’t for my parents being there for me throughout the way. I am also lucky that I could lean on my husband when starting the firm. I missed having a regular paycheck and he was there to cover our bills when I was not sure when the next client would come in. I would say with everything else, luck did not play any role. Everything I have and achieved is a result of hard work and commitment!
