Meet Paulette Young

Today we’d like to introduce you to Paulette Young.

Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
I grew up in a city that is rich in culture, welcomes all sorts of newcomers and is rich in history so it made it fairly easy for me to find people interesting and beautiful but I had one thing against me: I’m extremely shy! Growing up I started becoming the “photographer” in the family and it allowed me to learn three valuable things 1) to see people from a whole new amazing perspective 2) I learned to speak and even direct others 3) a way to freely express my art. By the time I was age 16 I submitted a photograph I took in Mulege (Baja, Mexico) to a Gallery’s Showcase and it was selected to be displayed.

In that moment I knew photography would be a big part of my life. In high school, I specialized in graphic arts and that opened a new door: editing. Although nowadays I try to keep my photos as natural as possible, its always fun to be able to edit a photograph to your heart’s content. I’m a firm believer that you should never stop learning about the things you are passionate about, and being a photographer is that for me. After years of preparing, I finally decided to do photography professionally and I currently love traveling between Rosarito, Mexico and San Diego looking for fun photoshoots.

Please tell us about your art.
I love all forms of art there are but, being able to paint with light is just something extra special. Photography can be a great challenge but one that is well worth it. When I manage to capture a unique moment like a mother’s emotion while looking at her daughter in her wedding dress, it gives me butterflies. What I hope that people take away when looking at one of my photos is that they are brought right back to the moment it was shot and remember the feeling, which is why I always make sure to do fun, creative photo-shoots. I love a challenge and being able to evoke raw emotion in a frozen moment in time.

Do you have any advice for other artists? Any lessons you wished you learned earlier?
Be patient, learn to love your work and to admire other’s. Never stop learning about what you love and work hard, it will pay off. If you ever feel like it’s too much pressure take a step back and breathe, reflect on why it is your passion and keep on it!

How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
