Meet Petra Le Det of Seam Reap

Today we’d like to introduce you to Petra Le Det.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Petra. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I toyed with the idea of designing cowhide accessories for a couple of years. I was going through a divorce and didn’t have the focus, or the energy to commit to much besides making it through the day. Eventually, the divorce came to an end and there came a time when I either abandoned my dream or pursued it. If I could make it through the divorce I could make it through anything, right?!

Besides, I wouldn’t have been able to forgive myself if I didn’t at least try. So here I am, after months of trial, error, stumbling blocks, hiccups, roadblocks, photo shoots, and more support than I could ever have imagined (you all know who you are) Seam Reap has evolved!

All of the cowhides are personally handpicked from top quality Brazilian hides. I source all materials in the USA, and all the leather hides used are byproducts of the food industry I design, make templates, cut, punch holes, make tassels, brand, emboss, stamp, and sew my cardholders, passport holders, and keychains by hand in California

What makes my product unique? Not only the variety of cowhides, linings, shapes, & sizes. Also the texture, they’re soft, supple, and sleek to touch. Not to mention super stylish!

Has it been a smooth road?
Working my day job as an RDH (dental hygienist) being a single mom, and muddling through the whole bag making process from scratch without experience.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Seam Reap story. Tell us more about the business.
People offer opinions and ideas, I stayed true to my vision… upscale, handcrafted luxury.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
My business has evolved so much in such a short time the future is beyond exciting. I have been able to transfer some time from my day job to my business. I would like to keep it small to enough to manage myself with a small team, fully transitioning from my day job. Keep it intimate and unique
