Today we’d like to introduce you to Philip Ferrari.
Philip, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
It seems, I’ve always had an interest in film and photography since I was a kid. I loved the magic of capturing the moment in pictures, and later on film. I’ve always enjoyed the power of film to tell a story or freeze a moment of life.
I grew up in Sacramento, but San Diego became my home when I enrolled at UCSD in the late 1970s. At UCSD I studied Communications, Spanish Lit and Visual Arts. While at UCSD, I participated in the Study Abroad program and lived in Barcelona Spain for a year. From Barcelona, I traveled all around Europe and experimented with photo journalism techniques. After graduation and a short stint selling cameras resale, I started working at MultiImage Productions as a photographer and line producer. Working at MulitImage allowed me to travel all over, including Asia, Europe and Hawaii and worked on a with a wide range of corporate projects and clients.
I left MultiImage in the late 80’s to be my on boss and run my own production company. This allowed me to work with my clients and help them connect their message to their audience.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Growing a business is always a challenge – I much prefer working in the business than on my business. Navigating the business rules and regulations, taxes, accounting and paperwork is a big challenge. Then there’s sales and marketing, client relations… well, anyone in business knows there’s always a challenge.
Additionally, clients and potential clients seem to be able to throw up a wide range of challenges, but I always seek to be a resource for them and offer a wide range of solutions and options. This includes helping them with scripting themes, production ideas, edit flows, and story ideas. I try to be a resource for my clients and include a range of services that I provide or I can provide resources or referrals for.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Ferrari Productions – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I take pride in making it easy for my clients to tell their story in a concise, compelling manner. In order to do that, I do my research and get to know the client culture, motivations, message and audience. I work primarily with corporate and non-profit clients, and get to know and communicate their message and Call To Action.
I am most proud of the way I can relate to the client’s needs and add value to their organization. I think we are the best media organization to help the client communicate and deliver an effective message. Technical skills are very important in our industry, but communicating the key messages with scripting and storytelling cannot be overlooked. This is our emphasis and focus.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
We love working with our corporate and non-profit clients, but we are also looking forward to creating our own content. Our future content includes travel, culture and cooking programs. We look forward to embracing the new technologies in filmmaking, photography and making the most of new techniques, software and cameras.
