Meet Phillip DeSantiago of Maddix in Point Loma

Today we’d like to introduce you to Phillip DeSantiago.

Phillip, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
My story began a few years ago, first with fitness. I decided to ride through a life-changing experience in the past five years where after becoming who I believed I was truly meant to be, I wanted to use the experience and knowledge to help others. Fitness was so much beyond just fitness for me, it made me the person I am today driven by hard work and the fear of being average. I made a fitness account on Instagram @maddivx to share my experiences and give back to those who are trying to better themselves in the way that I did. Shortly after that my best friend and I started the brand Miesha @mieshaclothing.

Both the clothing brand and fitness label, stand for people to be nothing but themselves. In a world that tries to conform you into something you’re not, it is important to always stay true to yourself and realize that it is absolutely ok to be different. Embrace your characteristics because there will never be another you and we must show the world how different we are. I also believe in perfecting your craft which is the role that my fitness page follows. To be the best at whatever it is you do and to never stop striving for your dreams because no one wants to be just average.

This year I had a truly life-changing experience when I had almost died during a surgery I had a few months ago. It was an experience I could never forget. But, my bounce back was incredible to me. Never sad, never worried, and always true to myself. I knew that when the day came, I would be healthy and ready to pursue my dreams full throttle. Harder than I ever have before. I did just that. I’ll never stop aiming for the stars because we owe it to ourselves to dream big in a world that installs fear in our minds to do just that. Always be yourself, always be different, and never give up.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been a smooth road. Life is never a smooth road no matter who you are. I have faced doubt, fear, hate, and jealousy. Starting your own businesses and platforms is never easy. But, I do believe the hardest part is starting. I recommend everyone to just go for it because what do you have to lose? follow your dreams no matter what.

I have had doubt in myself, doubt if the companies will even work, hatred that at some points business will be extremely slow. It’s ok as long as you can keep going. Money was also an issue because to get things going you are going to need money and you need to spend it wisely. I also faced health issues and I knew how I reacted to these issues would make all the difference. A positive mindset leads to a positive life full of prosperity.

Alright – so let’s talk business. What do you do? What do you specialize in? What sets you apart from competition?
My fitness company is what I am most known for. Specializing in fitness and nutrition. I do personal training and try to be a social media influencer. The clothing company is a brand where we want people to express themselves in a world where society tries to make you who you are. We stand for being different and being yourself. I am most proud of the people I have around me and the people I work with.

Without these people, I don’t know where I would be today. It is so important to surround yourself with ambitious people just like yourself. What sets us apart from either is what we stand for. We don’t want you to be like this, to wear that, or to do this. We want every individual to be their own. To love who you are and share your god given gifts to inspire the world.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
My proudest moment has been getting recognition from very famous people in the industry.
