Today we’d like to introduce you to Phillip VanderMeulen.
Phillip, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I always liked working with my hands. Since I was a kid, I always helped my dad work on cars and do things around the house.
In 2000 I started with a small construction company and started learning what I do today.
I got to this point through hands-on learning, hard work and lots of mishaps and failures… that is the best way to learn something.
I am still learning, and the journey continues.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The journey has been up and down. Smooth and rough.
I’ve worked on and off for myself on many occasions, just never in an official business owner compacity. Fighting through failure and anxiety to get the knowledge and know how I have now was not fun….but definitely worth it.
Being in charge of a new business, one realizes, even though I have experience in the industry, I have a learning curve and obstacles as a business owner.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
What the Honey-Do Connection does, is harken back a generation or so when we had actual “Honey-Do” lists for home maintenance and repair.
Home maintenance and repairs are what we specialize in. Upgrades and new hardware.
What we are proud of is the ability to personalize service and make the client feel comfortable about us while we are working there and after we are finished.
What sets us apart from others is the personal touch and dependability.
What were you like growing up?
As a kid, I was a wisecracker. Always put family first, and was always determined to prove people wrong. I was an athlete playing baseball, volleyball, and lifting weights.
I was homeschooled and took five years of piano lessons.
