Meet Pilar Kuri of Mexico Gourmet in South Bay

Today we’d like to introduce you to Pilar Kuri.

Pilar, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
On 2008 I decided to open my own company, I was doing mostly marketing campaigns and event marketing. On 2015 I started working as an independent contractor for the San Diego Latino Film Festival, I was in charge of sponsors, event planning and execution. On 2016 as part of the San Diego Latino Film Festival we added Sabor Latino, a food festival that would bring chefs from both sides of the border, including Ensenada, Valle de Guadalupe, Tijuana and San Diego, finally on 2019 I produced Mexico Gourmet, the whole idea of Mexico Gourmet was to bring to the US the original flavors of Mexico, a combination of the traditional flavors along but with a Gourmet note, growing up in Mexico city I knew there was so much of the Mexican cuisine that was unknown on this side of the border, so we brought 36 chefs from different states of Mexico, San Diego and Los Angeles. We had traditional food from 13 states in Mexico. We also had a wide variety of over 20 different Tequilas, Mezcal and Mexican craft beers. We were delighted to have such a great audience. We were sold out with over 2000 attendees. This year we have canceled our 2nd event due to the contingency with COVID 19 but we hope to return back in 2021.

Has it been a smooth road?
As everything it has had some struggles, it was our first year, so it was hard to find sponsors, also bringing chefs from all these different locations was also a challenge, but at the end, I feel that it was worth it.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Mexico Gourmet – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I guess for us an event needs to be a different experience for its audience, and that experience has to be planned and design from the beginning to the end.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I think San Diego its truly a beautiful city, it really has everything from its beaches to Gaslamp, to Balboa, all its scenery offers a lot for everyone.
