Today we’d like to introduce you to Powder.
Hi Powder, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
We are a band called Powder! We have been playing shows locally in San Diego for nearly three years. But more so, we are 4 friends who have deepened our existing bond through making music and finding how we are stronger together than the sum of our parts. There have been several different iterations of members coming and going, but we’ve been going strong with the current lineup for the past year.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The biggest difficulty we have found is trying to manage very different schedules. Most young creative folks working in a group can likely relate to the struggle of figuring out how to plan things around school, work, and furthering yourself in general. Oftentimes, the artistic endeavors are what take a backseat, yet for so many, it is a very necessary part of who we are that needs to be fleshed out and explored to it’s fullest potential.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
We are musicians. Our sound is a mix of beachy indie and blues rock. We are the first ever two-time-champions of battle of the bands at SDA high school. Battle of the bands is a tradition at SDA that’s been going on for a long time, each band must pass the first round in order to make it to finals. There were 10-15 participants which were narrowed down to 4 finalists. These bands were judged by multiple professional musicians in four categories: talent, preparation, originality, and audience engagement. We received nearly a perfect score both years, winning us first place twice, making us the first ever two-time-champions. End of last year, we began recording our debut album! It will be released in the coming months.
What are your plans for the future?
We would love to continue creating whenever we can. Members of our band are going away to college, but we will keep working hard at it. The connection and sound we have cultivated are very special to us all.
