Today we’d like to introduce you to Professor B. Miller.
Hi Professor B., so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
We are a robot-fronted performance art band called Satanic Puppeteer Orchestra. Since we last spoke in 2018, we set out to release a series of 20 themed albums, and guess what? We’re halfway there—10 albums down, 10 to go. Numbers 11, 12, and 13 have been recorded and will be out shortly. Right now, we’re knee-deep in recording album number 14.
Along the way, we’ve had the pleasure of working with some amazing people. Dr. Demento wrote liner notes for us, and we had Pall Jenkins lend his vocals to a track. Our latest album, “Have an Existential Crisis,” got some love from listeners around the globe, and was studied as a work of experimental fiction at San Diego State University.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Putting out one album is no small feat—it’s a labor of love from writing and recording to album art and distribution. And we’ve tackled that process over 10 times now. It’s a balancing act, requiring persistence and follow-through to wrap up an album and dive into the next.
The thought of releasing 20 albums might seem daunting, but each record tied to a theme—whether through lyrics or genre—keeps us focused and sparks creativity. Setting milestones along the way helps too.
There’s internal pressure to raise the bar with each album, pushing ourselves to new heights. But the biggest challenge? Switching gears between writing/recording and live performances. We’ve only played a handful of shows, as live shows divert time and focus from our goal of 20 themed albums. At some point we’re going to have a lot of album release shows to go back and play.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Beyond our robot frontman, we’re recognized for our genre-bending antics, intricate packaging, and penchant for pushing boundaries. A standout moment from our first 10 themed albums? Definitely our metal record, “Face Their Fears,” released on vinyl with a corpse paint face stencil, laser-etched vinyl, and glow-in-the-dark guitar pick. Collaborating with guitarist Scott Schramp elevated our sound to new heights.
Another highlight is our robo-rocksteady album, “Have an Existential Crisis,” where guest vocalists brought fresh perspectives to our tunes. There’s something magical about working with someone and having it turn out better than you could have imagined.
Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
To support us, buy or listen to our records and tell your friends about us. We’re not very active on social media, but when we have updates, you can find them on Instagram or Facebook. Stay tuned for three or four new albums from us in the near future.
