Meet Profyt

Today we’d like to introduce you to Profyt.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Profyt. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Well, I grew up writing poetry and being surrounded by music. Growing up in Southern Illinois where my mom sang in the church, I was always fascinated on how music is the language everyone can hear and speak. It wasn’t until 2017 that I fully pursued my dreams. It was crazy how it happened. I was just recovering from my 2nd surgery and was using my sister’s room as a studio. That’s when I fell in love even more, with a podcast mic and my dad’s photography light stand I began to find my purpose. It was at a time in my life where things felt so temporary that God kept music around. Sure enough, I began to do open mic venues in St.Louis with my twin cousins Martin and Malcom, who formed a band called SoulFlow. I am gladly apart of that band today. With our Drummer Eric being the last one, we all migrated to the west coast.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
No way! And honestly, I wouldn’t want it any other way. On this road of uncertainty you come to understand that you learn from the potholes. I feel like the struggles coming up for me so far was being away from everything I knew as normal. When I moved to California, I was on ground zero. It’s Like before a match on call of duty, I just appeared and was guarding for my life. Not knowing I was on the battlefield to capture my life. Facing an area where Drill rap is prominent was tough as well. Which I’m thankful because it made me dig deeper to believe in my sound, as well as gain appreciation.

Can you give our readers some background on your music?
My Artist name is Profyt. I recently changed my name from M.U.D, which will always have a place in my heart and be stapled to my hometown. But, at this time in my life, the name Profyt is helping me walk in my calling. I am a writer and Emcee, not only for my music, but I am also apart of a band. We are called Soul Flow, located in the San Diego area. With The rebranding in effect, I will be Premiering my debut single “Proverbs” on all platforms. I can truly say I am most proud of the progress made in a year, none of it was by chance. You work hard and you reap the fruits of your labor. What sets me apart from others is me just being me. I will do what I do best, and that paints a picture with my words.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
Big ups to my family, who never doubted for a second. I have this group I call “The Counsel” who all always give trusted criticism on projects and that means a lot to me. My engineer, MahdieGotBeats who goes crazy! Also to my band brothers who stayed locked in through it all.
