Today we’d like to introduce you to Rachael Smith.
Rachael, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
My photographic journey began in 2007 as I was flipping through a college course catalog looking for options. I went out of my comfort zone and signed up for something I had always been interested in, Photography. I took an intro to film class and feel in love, after a couple years I graduated with an A.A. Degree in Photography. After graduating is when my life really began, the hard work of growing a business. I knew the journey would be slow and take a lot of time, but I was determined to try and do my best!! Fast forward to now and I am so thankful for all the friendships I’ve made over the years, I’ve had the best clients, vendors, family and friends supporting me. It is a wonderful career to have, allowing me to spend time with my family and work when I can. Some days are not easy, but whenever I get the privilege to deliver a gallery of images my heart just swells with love, excitement and gratitude. It is truly my life’s passion!
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Some of the struggles for me has definitely been in the ways of business, after graduating all I could think of was how many Photography jobs I would be doing. But there is so much more to it than being just a photographer. As Photographers know it is taking on contracts, scheduling, marketing, loads of editing, social media and lots of late nights.
Please tell us about Rachael Smith Photography.
Rachael Smith Photography cannot get enough natural light and outdoor locations. We specialize in bright timeless imagery with a mix of natural and directed poses. We love being able to document engagements, weddings and portraits! And as we plan for each session we want the client to feel at home, every session is so unique to the next and we love that!
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
If I had to start over again I would definitely start working in the field as soon as possible and second shooting. As well as minored in business.
