Today we’d like to introduce you to Rachel Dillon.
Rachel, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
My passion for cold brew began out of desperation. I loved my morning coffee but hated the acid reflex attacks that would soon attack my chest. No one wants to develop a relationship with a Tums bottle, so what was I to do?
A trendy drink started to pop up in my social media feed called “cold brew” and like any millennial, I was eager to try it so I could take a picture of myself with it in a “posed but natural way” and share it on my Instagram. But after that first sip, I was hooked. Not only did this drink taste way better than any coffee I had ever had, but when I threw the empty cup away, I didn’t feel the desire to reach for the Tums. I had found a delicious solution.
Cold Brew Chick is me, but it is also more. It’s a place for you to learn more about this wonderful drink, and be inspired from the people that are fueled by it.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The beginning of starting a blog or company is always tough because you’re dealing internally with the struggle of being patient/monitoring your growth. Should I have “x” more amount of followers by now, or am I doing ok? Being focused on a niche topic is awesome in many ways, but one drawback I had to remind myself in the beginning is my growth was going to be slower than others because my brand is focused on a specific audience. Not everyone loves cold brew, let alone coffee – but the people that do are going to be just as passionate as I am, and that created a special kind of audience and community.
I also always struggle anytime I have to give a cold brew a bad review. I want every cold brew I have to be the best one ever! Sadly, this isn’t the case and while its always a bit awkward to post, some of those reviews have resulted in companies changing their cold brew and it turns out fantastic.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Cold Brew Chick – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
The simplest title to give myself would be “blogger” or “influencer”, but I like to think of myself as a “cold brew enthusiast”! My goal is to be the #1 resource for all things cold brew – making it, drinking it, selling it. I review cold brew from coffee shops and stores, talk about cold brew on the podcast, and create cold brew on my Youtube. Anything and everything to do with cold brew, I cover it.
Being the only one that specializes in cold brew is cool – although it is niche, I was shocked to discover all the content that could be created on one single item. In fact, my biggest fear when I first started was that I would run out of content. But it’s turned out to be quite the opposite!
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
My plan is to become that #1 resource, and now that I’ve just past two years I’m excited to see how much more Cold Brew Chick grows. There are so many directions I’d love to take it, but in the end it all comes down to how can I best provide value in the cold brew space. A book? Classes? Stickers? We’ll see! 🙂
