Today we’d like to introduce you to Raluca Topor.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I was born and raised in Romania and I moved to the US at the age of 25 right after graduating from college. My American dream was to land a job in advertising with one of the largest ad agencies I have learned about in school like Saatchi & Saatchi, Ogilvy & Mather, etc. and I also dreamt of traveling the world. But something even better happened, although it definitely didn’t feel like it at that time.
Instead of landing what I thought was my dream job at the time, I ended up realizing how multi-passionate I was. I tried out hospitality, sales, lead generation, tech, and social media across the US and Europe.
In 2017, I realized I had skills that other people didn’t — working in all these different industries taught me how to find, interview for, and get job after job. It turned out NOT getting my dream job the first time made it so much easier for me to help other people get theirs!
Around that time I hired my first life coach and with her support, I stopped everything I was doing that was keeping me stuck in the same story and within a couple of days I established the social media presence of my new idea. I figured out how to build my first website, I set up the Facebook and Instagram business accounts and, just like that, YourWorthonPaper.com was born.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I don’t think my story is much different than that of any new immigrant who comes to the US on their own who have to rebuild their life from scratch. I am a first-generation Romanian immigrant and I am proud of it. Everything that I have accomplished to date has been through my own efforts.
The years I’ve worked in lead generation and sales roles are the years that taught me the importance of paying attention/staying on top of your online presence and building a personal brand. Those were the days when I had to constantly sell myself and the years that prepared me for what I do today.
In sales, you are as good as your last sale. As soon as you hit your goal, the timer starts for you to hit the next sales target. You start each day at ground zero. Those years have helped me hone in and leverage the power of LinkedIn and social media in general to build an online presence.
Now I’m able to help my own clients do the same, so they stand out in the job search and get noticed by employers.
Please tell us about Your Worth on Paper.
My main goal in my business is to empower professionals through the job searching process by putting together the tools that will land them the job of their dreams. My favorite part is when I see their face open up with a big smile when they see the finished version of their resume. For some of them is the first time they are seeing the recap of their professional career progression on a piece of paper.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My grandma was my biggest cheerleader. Unfortunately, I lost her too soon, around the age of 8. One of my favorite childhood memories was her giving me my first piggy bank and teaching me the purpose of it, and I remember she almost filled it up for me. I also remember the feeling of peace I felt every time I went to her house. I felt so supported and loved in that environment. It’s something I found myself always missing and yearning for in the past trying to recreate that in past romantic relationships or friendships. With time and lots of self-development, I realized that I could only create that by looking within.
