Today we’d like to introduce you to Raunette Celeste Vaughn.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I moved to San Diego in 2000 and started working as an Esthetician in La Mesa at a very busy Day Spa. I began to build my clientele and was the only one there that knew how to perform a Brazilian wax. I became well know there for my hair removal services and custom facials. I worked with many product lines and was trained in several procedures such as microdermabrasion and detoxifying body wraps.
After a few years perfecting my skills I relocated to the beach area and began to work at two locations on in pacific beach and the other at a 5-star resort on the bay. (Many of my East county clientele followed me and are still loyal to this day). I accredit my time spent at these two very diverse work settings to hiding me to the professional I am today. I adopted my bedside manner from the best trainers at this 5-star resort. Learning many more product lines and amazing techniques. One of the skills I was certified in there in 2003 was the art of body sugaring hair removal.
This was a game changer for me and my clientele. To be able to remove hair from the most sensitive of areas on the body without taking live skin cells. A product so pure it literally could be ingested! I spent 5 years learning, growing and preparing myself for what came next. Merging the products and procedures I was trained in and gathering skilled coworkers I co-created The Upper-Level Spa in 2007 bringing affordable spa treatments and holistic toxin-free product to Bay Park. Working with some of San Diego’s best talent we offered a variety of treatments from skin care/custom facials/sugar hair removal/massage therapy as well as raindrop therapy and emotional release therapy.
After 8 years as a co-owner at this beautiful Spa. My partner and I decided to sell the practice and join another business venture establishing the Esthetics side of a salon and medical studio in La Jolla. Creating a smaller version of what we established in Bay Park bringing in the same skills services and product. Allowing us to also focus more time on our own clientele.
After 3 years in La Jolla and many growth experiences throughout an 18 year Esthetics Career. I am now at a point where I no longer wish to take on more than my own esthetic clientele. Focusing my efforts solely on them. I am thrilled to be on my own and back in central San Diego at the cutest zen studio in North Park Offering my favorite services and toxin-free products. I love my craft and my clientele. Simplicity is my new motto.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Life has its ups and downs. Often in times of struggle and uncertainty is where we grow the most. I have learned so many lessons and am grateful for the experience. It has brought me to a really beautiful place with some amazing people.
