Hi Reb, so great to have you join us again. For folks who might have missed our earlier conversations, can you please take a minute to briefly introduce yourself?
With her rose-gold hair and sassy attitude Reb is the founder and Head REBL at REBL Marketing—a firm helping B2B businesses build and manage integrated marketing programs through strategy, branding and messaging, strong digital presence, and video content.

Reb has been an owner, partner, and investor in several businesses during her life–she has always had an entrepreneurial spirit. REBL Marketing has been her opportunity to take everything she has learned through her entrepreneurial endeavors and build a business that helps other businesses grow. She was voted the 2019 Emerging Woman-Owned Business by the Connected Women of Influence Organization and a finalist for the 2020 SDBJ Businesswoman of the Year, a finalist for SDBJ 2020 CEO of the Year, and 2021 Finalist for the Women of Influence Presidents Award.

How did you know it was time to start your own business?
I’ve been in marketing my whole career. I studied PR and Communications at Virginia Tech and got my Masters’s in Entrepreneurship and Marketing from SDSU. I worked on the agency side and company side of marketing. I’ve been a marketing associate, manager, director, VP, Fractional CMO. When I started to consult for a friend of mine with her new business, she really encouraged me to start my marketing business. The pivotal moment for me was when my dad died. It was the hardest thing I’ve ever had to deal with. The realization that you don’t have all the time in the world hit me hard. I decided it was now or never to start my firm, so I did.

How have you evolved the REBL business model to serve your customers and change market demands?
The last two years have changed the way businesses approach everything including how they manage their marketing team. The biggest evolution of the REBL Marketing business model is that we’ve created a marketing training program for small to medium sized businesses that want to grow and develop an internal marketing person. The genesis of the marketing training program came from our clients asking us to help train their internal marketing person who they wanted to keep on the team. Usually, this person is junior or maybe moving from another internal company position outside of marketing. This person is smart, motivated and excited about marketing, but doesn’t have any real-world marketing experience and needs mentoring by a senior marketing professional if they are going to be successful. This is where the REBL Marketing Training Program helps.

What’s your number one piece of advice for other business owners or entrepreneurs?
Learn to say, “No”.

In regards to marketing, what should small- to mid-sized businesses considering in their marketing strategy?
Small- to mid-sized businesses need to be open to trying and testing out different approaches to marketing. Be smart about testing and follow the plan, but doing the same old marketing is not how a business can grow.
